Hi everyone. Newbie quail owner here. I have a quail that is 8 weeks old (according to the breeder I got her/him from)

The feathers on its breast look male but the vent sexing (and I’ve looked about 10 times trying to figure this out) is female. No foam (I’ve pushed all around trying to confirm), no crowing and it looks she she’s been bred (missing some feathers on back of her head)

Is it possible that the feathers can present as male and it actually be a female ?

Wow, I'm glad I came across this. I'm also a newbie to this and had sorta the same problem.... Im glad to know now that unless they're active then they might not have foam or bulge.... I definitely threw in a couple that had no bulge or foam thinking they was females.....😮‍💨😱
I'll have to go through them again occasionally to see what changes...

Is that color very gender specific, there was no direct answer so I'm still wondering if females can have that color as well bc I have some with that color but with specks...

Male pharoah/wild type/brown have rusty/reddish breasts while females are gray/tan/cream/brownish (not red!) with spots/speckles. Be careful with baby spots (can still have them at 3-4 weeks), I had 4 females that all turned into boys in the course of a week, oops!
