I have a male Embden goose that is mated with the only female in my little flock of 4. The smallest male goose is a Sebastopol. He has lost almost all of his curly feathers during this first mating season, but seems to have a deep bond with the Embden. Daily they will bath together in one of the pools and the Embden will mount the Sebastopol. Currently the Sebastopol has a sore foot. We have a bandage on it and have been trying to isolate him for at least several hours when we change the bandage.
All four are very close and the other three will visit the Sebastopol when he is in isolation. I let him out this afternoon, limping, but glad to be with the others. Within 10minutes he and the Embden were starting their "mating" activity with a bucket of water. The Embden started to mount the Sebastopol and I stopped it, but they just keep trying. The Sebastopols' foot is obviously hurting him, but he seems to want the attention. The top of his wing feathers are also showing wear. I thought about making him a Chicken Saddle for him.
Is this common?
