male parrot/parakeet owners!

Well Pedro has reach the age of sexual maturity and there really is nothing to do about it just let it run its course. I would not get him a mate since his bond to humans will be broken and he may be become aggressive towards you. I am going to email you a link to a forum that is dedicated to Quaker Parrots.

I have a cockatoo named, Oscar. He has a toy we nicknamed "Henrietta". He will take and hour or so every day, and "Mate" with her non-stop. We've learned to ignore it. He will click his tongue and make weird noises, but heck, everyone does it!

I'm assuming you mean digusting habit ... It may be make you and/or your company uncomfortable, but Pedro is exhibiting normal, natural behavior for a parrot without a companion. He does not have a female companion, so he satisfies himself the only way he can do so. Close the door when company comes, or move him into another room. You might also try getting him a stuffed animal for a surrogate partner.

THis is a really old post, but an interesting aspect of parrot ownership! One of my favorite birds at the sanctuary will roll up his own newspaper to masturbate with. It's actually quite funny. I don't find it disgusting at all, in fact I usually just laugh at him. It's a completely normal thing for many animals to do. In fact, I think humans are one of the only animals disgusted by the habit!

OP could just accept the fact that pedro is being denied lovin and give him relive before company comes over, especially since otherwise the bird is no longer being held it seems, and just stuck alone in cage, even though an extremely social animal, bird and parrot specifically. maybe its the only thing it has to do to stop depression. many mental doctors used to and again are starting to tell people endorphins from sexual activity is the greatest stress boredom and lone9ness relief, maybe pedro is just trying to stop from wanting to hang himself from loneliness in his cage, as simply a display item?

We have a Albino Ring Neck Parrot called " ICE " who thinks he is a monkey and makes lots of monkey noises - I have no idea where he learned them too ! He has only been with us for about a month but is settling in well - He is still not sure about hands though !

We have a clicker to see if we can get him to associate the click with fresh fruit - which he loves.

Regards
Dr Rob.

dr rob. awsome sounding assortmaent, with neat names to boot! who named them all? i recently got found tiel male, who we imagined must have just been tossed out or escaped recent, and is older bird maybe, but it sings all these songs of wild birds i love... so guess so maybe was wild for longer as it was trying to get back out i think once or twice (think it was trying to walk or flutter out doors were open when coming in, a couple times, as my other birds never try to leave after the albino bdgie flew over by woods and sharp shinned hawk chased it around till it flew back to porch, and no one has tried to go out, or leave cages when put out on porch, though the budgie did get stuck on roof right after clipped wings when was moving in cold snap, so they wouldnt get lost), but i dont need any more songbirds to listen to after all! though sad new male might try to fly off if he doesnt bond to territory and all others in it, when wings and tail feathers grow back (i didnt do it, it was done b guy who found/caught in his factory).
