Mallard Muscovy cross.

He is a big tough bird, bossing around even the big Muscovy males. I had a small albino Mallard, he drowned her mating with her !!!
One of my Mallard females is his best pal, go everywhere together but have never nested.View attachment 1514828
I have Muscovy ducks here. I learnt what little I know about them on the Muscovy Duck Forum. I understood that only ducks directly related to the Mallard are in fact ducks and that Muscovy's are related to geese and have no genetic link to the Mallard.
This why I thought they could not successfully mate between the breeds.

He is pretty. He does look like a cross of some type.
If you have pics of your ducklings, that might help as well. However, if you have muscovy drakes they could be mating with your mallards and that would produce the moulards as well.

Editing to add that there are different breeds of ducks in the wild that are not derived from mallards.

I am not sure where you read it. Most on the duck forum know about the Muscovy and that they are not geese. Mallards are not the only duck genus, but most domesticated ducks are derived from the mallard with the exception of the Muscovy. They are tree perching ducks - cairina moschata.
It is false info that they are a goose.

That is not a Mallard Drake. It looks like a cross Mallard derived breed of Duck. Blue Swedish possibly?

Sorry I don't know much about ducks. You can post your questions on the "Duck forum."
Just go the the forms at top of this page, and scroll down to Ducks. They should be able to answer you. Welcome to Backyard Chickens.

My Mallards haven't nested yet.
Some of the batch of ducklings have the Muscovy floating tails like the grey one in the photo, but some short and pointed like the black and white one in the photo. The bird in question did mate with the mother.
