Mama dog with week old pups wont stop attacking my chicks!

I think the dog needs to go now. Not because it's a bad dog or unsafe with your chicks. It needs to go because obviously you don't like it, you aren't going to spend the time supervising, training, and taking care of it, and you have no clue how to train or care for the dog or you wouldn't have to keep beating it with a broom. If I took the dog from you I would consider it a rescue situation and getting a dog from a bad home. If you want multiple animals in your house you should know how to keep them safely apart. A pregnant dog should have her own safe area preferably her own room with her puppies or else a secluded pen and kennel. Chicks need a solid brooder in a home with dogs or cats and in a situation like this or when supervision is minimal they need their own room with a door that is shut all the time. If you don't have enough places in the house to seperate everyone as needed or don't take the time to train the dog what "leave it" means using positive reinforcement instead of beatings as well as supervising any time the dog is loose in the room with the chicks then you should not have more than one animal in your house. This also does not sound like a good introduction to humans for the puppies. Find them a home that will love all of them and give them a good start in life.

I think your being kind of harsh here. OP didn't say she didn't like the dog as a matter of fact she said it was a sweet dog until she had her pups, then the killing of her chicks began. Evidently from the OP's original post the dog was supervised all night to keep her from getting the remaining chick, OP only mentioned beating the dog 1 time with the broom not multiple beatings as your post seems to suggest. Also she states that the dog has her own room (dining room) which is hers and her pups and where she is locked up in unless she's outside and the dog figured out how to get out of the room to attack the chick. Now as for taking the time to train the dog I can't say anything about that but IMO a good spanking never hurt a dog at all, they are smarter than most people give them credit for and they know when they do wrong and they know what the spanking is for.

I apologize if this is considered rude but..........

It's a basset/terrier mix, it has a high prey drive for little critters, it's hardwired in. You can't beat it out of them. Nor will throwing them fix the problem. Puppies don't necessarily make it worse either. If they can figure out a way to get to it, they will. Trust me I know, hence the rebar stakes along the base of my fence.

Blindness doesn't stop them either, Sally would gladly eat every bird I had right now if I were to let her have the chance.

I have 5 bassets so you could call me biased. 3 of which were severely abused by their previous owners and hearing that someone willingly hurt one upsets me.

If the dogs are causing this much of a problem why haven't you taken them to an animal control facility? They do take mom's with pups. And depending on where you are at I might be able to get a basset rescue to see about getting them from the AC.
