I think the dog needs to go now. Not because it's a bad dog or unsafe with your chicks. It needs to go because obviously you don't like it, you aren't going to spend the time supervising, training, and taking care of it, and you have no clue how to train or care for the dog or you wouldn't have to keep beating it with a broom. If I took the dog from you I would consider it a rescue situation and getting a dog from a bad home. If you want multiple animals in your house you should know how to keep them safely apart. A pregnant dog should have her own safe area preferably her own room with her puppies or else a secluded pen and kennel. Chicks need a solid brooder in a home with dogs or cats and in a situation like this or when supervision is minimal they need their own room with a door that is shut all the time. If you don't have enough places in the house to seperate everyone as needed or don't take the time to train the dog what "leave it" means using positive reinforcement instead of beatings as well as supervising any time the dog is loose in the room with the chicks then you should not have more than one animal in your house. This also does not sound like a good introduction to humans for the puppies. Find them a home that will love all of them and give them a good start in life.
