Hoping for 5!!!

Three I'm pretty sure are not duck filled but they are still in there 'just in case'.

So six left in the incubator right now. It *should* be *about* 28 days this weekend!

Cool!

I *Just* convinced my husband to let me keep chickens!! He was - shall we say - not very enthusiastic about the idea.

Maybe after a few months of keeping chickens, he'll let me score a duck or 2, but somehow I doubt it LOL = What do duck eggs taste like??

They taste just like chicken eggs to me except the shells are harder and the white part is thicker and more rubbery when cooked. I hear they're better for baking, but they did taste just fine!

Chickens are GREAT, but the roosters are cantankerous!!!! I love my hens and tolerate the roosters!!!

With God's great will and grace, I will only pick hens.

You better do some serious praying too! Our first batch of chickens was "straight run" and we got 17 roosters and 15 hens! We ended up have all but three 'processed' for meat. [I will NEVER EVER do that again ... felt like a murderer. No stomach for it.]

The next time we got 16 chicks from the big pail at the Farm Store because the sign said PULLETS. We got SIX ROOSTERS in that batch! Now we have a 'rooster bachelor pad' where seven roosters have a shed and a fenced run into the woods. The other two roosters have earned a spot with the hens. None of them run loose on the property any more and they crow 24/7 but I tolerate them anyhow. They are beautiful birds but meaner than junkyard dogs!

Morning peeps! Baby duck number 3 was out of his shell when I got up this morning! He's still a tad wet so I'm leaving him in there another few hours per Kath's instructions!

Here he is!

Baby #1 & #2 are fuzzy and fiesty!

Fourth duck is still working on cracking his egg and egg number 5 so no signs of a crack yet. A few more days should tell the whole story!

Smiling from ear to ear! Everytime I see "Mamacatpatch has replied to the post......." I click that link as fast as my mouse will go. This is such a sweet story. Those babies are lucky to have such a caring mamma!!
