Mama Duck Attacked!!

I just went back and looked at picture two and it IS funny!!! Now I've got the giggles and can't stop!!! I can think of some great captions for it too. I just made it my desktop pix!!!

One egg has a nice hole and I see the duck's beak working on it every so often. I figure by the morning he'll be out and drying off!

Two other eggs I'm sure have ducks but no pips yet! I rechecked two of them and they look like they're filled with soup so my 'expert' opinion says there's no ducks inside!!!

Ok last post for the night. Another egg has pipped! Soooooo, two eggs are pipping now. Baby duck is doing great, eating his meatbird slop and enjoying some water too. The temp fluxes a bit so I hope he'll be warm enough tonight! Tomorrow I should have two more duckies!

I predict there'll be five ducklings when it's all said and done, just from the candling and observing the eggs that are left. Two are pipping, two others I think have ducks, one other I'm not sure about and three more I believe are not viable, but I won't discard them until it's way past the 'due' dates.

What a wonderful day this has been! I think I'm in LOVE with DUCKS!

Aw I'm sorry about your first batch of ducks I can't really give you any advice I barely know anything about ducks and chickens. I think you could probably save the survivors of the batch. I hope everything goes ok.

I had a long, busy day at work yesterday and then kids' events until late and I was actually annoyed that I couldn't get here to check up on you and your duckies!! LOL I love that pic #2 also, he looks like he's saying, "What are YOU looking at?"

I am SO happy for you, this is such and unbelievable story and you really did your mama duck proud!

Hopefully a nice easy work day today so I'll be glued to the story waiting for more babies

Quick morning check in! Baby duck is fine and fiesty today. Number 2 duck is still pipping and pecking. If he is like Baby Duck 1, he should be out by 11 a.m. or so today. Egg number 2 [baby duck 3] just has one pip like a crack so far, but we saw that last night so by tonight perhaps he will be out? Time will tell. I know Baby Duck 1 will be happy to have some siblings with him!

Again, I appreciate all your support and encouragement and good wishes during this whole drama! Thank God it has worked out well. I am one 'happy mamaduck'!!!!

I kept seeing this thread and didnt have time to do the catch up reading as it grew so quickly... Sure glad I took the time tonight to do it.

What a wonderful result so far. Even saving one would have been a lovely tribute to your duck that survived the attack but later died.

What an experience this has been for you- and its certainly not over yet either. I wish you all the best with the other eggs- and hope you have a great time raising those babies.

It certainly shows just how resilient eggs can be at times.

Look foward to seeing more pics of the others as well when they hatch.
