Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

This is so great! I was wondering if reptile mat would work also they are so much less expensive. Anyone used it for their chicks?
I found them to be less effective, played around with one and they are just not quite warm enough.

I believe they are smaller as well. Think of the regular heating pad people use for MHP as a "dual purpose" breed ;) Works for the 4 weeks a year (and maybe not every year) you need it to hatch chicks, works the other 11 months as a heating pad for YOU! :D I would guess people don't use reptile heat mats for that purpose. A MHP pad is a good investment.

Anyone have any experience with this heat pad. I bought 2 one for the coop to put crock of fermented feed on to prevent freezing and one for my brooder. It’s says supplemental heat for chicks but then I realize it is temperature controlled.

I think a few people have used them, but most of us use a heating pad that allows us to bypass the "auto off" function. I can't remember now who tried the ones you're referring to, but maybe they'll chime in with their experiences.
