Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

There is something wrong with this picture

Two happy, healthy chicks all settled in in the brooder section of the coop with their mhp......the problem, it's the wrong two chicks.
The two polish I was going to be raising for my sister came in..... one all but doa (lost her about 20 hours later despite all efforts) and the other not much better off. Having resigned myself to the first being a loss, I set out to get a replacement buddy for the other, by that point the second was looking 50/50 on making it, so I got two to avoid ending up with a lone chick should polish #2 give up....lost her this morning. So, down two polish, but now up two blrw.....(they were the smallest of all the chicks they had, picked in case the little polish did make it).
These little ones are doing great and since I'm no longer nursing the little polish they went from mhp in the house to mhp in the coop today.

You better let me do it. I know for a fact that you will slap yourself much harder that I would! In fact, I'm pretty sure if I did it you would feel nothing but air passing the side of your face. But I'd make it LOOK like I smacked you with appropriate force.

Thank you all that have contributed to this thread. I was all set to buy an Eco-glow (or equivalent) last month and stopped to do just a little extra research and stumbled across this thread. I was inspired and made my own "Momma" heating pad brooder! I documented my build with photos and will share them here, as soon as I get my chicks next week!

Awesome! Welcome to the Broody Brigade! We're always here to offer support, answer questions, and it's still a pretty active thread. There's a bit of a learning curve at first, and often some uncertainty because this is so far from the conventional, but usually the chicks get it before the owners do. After you've done it once, though, you're a pro.....it's that easy! Photo sharing, is, of course, NOT optional, it's essential!

Taking the plunge myself this year. Ordering chicks tomorrow, so I will HAVE TO have MHP built before they come. My biggest obstacle was convincing DH (Farm boy who grew up with heat lamps for chicks - never had a problem, so why change?) that it's a good idea. I was originally going to order 40 chicks, which would require 2 MHPs, but am scaling back to 25. If I get the bigger heating pad, will that be big enough?
