Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Here we go again......the last babies integrated just in time, post office called bright and early this morning so I cranked up the ol MHP once again. None of these are mine(keep repeating that, lol), 10 go home Saturday and 6 will either go to my sister in 6-8 weeks or be sold (she's not sure how many she's keeping yet). They came a day early so barely had time to get everyone unpacked before I had to leave for work, luckily dd is at the house to babysit....pics as soon as I can.

Hello! Thank you for this thread! I started reading a little a few days ago (although I didn't read the whole thread) and then bought two heating pads on amazon that do not shut off on their own. We've had our smallest chicks inside for 3 weeks and their feathers are coming in, so I've turned the heat lamp off for them, but I'm SO ready for them to go out in the garage! Once they're in the garage, I plan to have the Mama Heat pad out there for them. We currently have 4 ducks in the garage under a heat lamp that are 3 or 4 weeks old.

My question is, can I use the 1/4 inch hardware cloth to construct the wire part of the Mama Heating Pad? I don't think we have any fence wire right now to spare. Also, will one of these work for the ducks if I make two and have the ducks and chicks in their separate boxes in the garage, each with their own heating pad? The ducks are larger than the chicks by far, but still have their baby fuzz. I keep waking up every morning worried about that heat lamp we have on :/
