Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I'm a little concerned because I just read on a different thread that the printed side of the heating pad is the warmest, and I have that side up. It's supposed to get down to 30* tonight, but hopefully they'll be OK.

It is indeed warmer on the printed side( I don't know why they put the fuzzy stuff on there then-smh)but only about 10-15°F, I tested it with an infrared temp gauge.
I've used both sides with success, depended on where I needed to cord to run....so, yeah, don't sweat it.

Thanks - I think he’s finally getting it.

The closest we’re going to get of a picture with them under it right now is the one I posted with me lifting it so you could see them. I tried to get one last night, but all it showed was straw.

Below 40 degrees last night - the first night in the coop. Yikes! This morning, with frost everywhere, all goslings and ducklings happily accounted for!

Funny story...my wife was concerned about them being cold last night (we checked on them before turning in for the night) and she convinced me (didn't take much) to up the pad one notch. Almost IMMEDIATELY two goslings vocally objected and came out. Lowered it back, and nudged them back in and all slept quietly through the night.

How were they this morning?

All but one alive and well. One didn’t make it, but I didn’t figure it would. When I first saw them one was kind of huddled by itself under the pad and looking sickly. I told DH I’d be surprised if it made it through the night. I think it was one of the “Americanas”. So I went and got a replacement and bought two BRs just for good measure.

It's funny how many times we have that one or two we just somehow know aren't going to make it. Sometimes a little boost with Nutridrench or even sugar water can help them over a rough spot, and sometimes they totally surprise us and rally completely. It's always a little sad when they don't. But we still have a brooder full of others who need our attention, so we just move on. Sounds heartless to some people, but there it is.

It's hard to do...I have an old split body camera that makes it pretty easy.

I just realized that I may have put double the amount of electrolytes in their water. Will this hurt them, or should I go out and dilute it? I think I only need 1/10 of a tsp. in the gallon and for some reason thought I was using a 1/8 tsp. when I measured. Instead I put in a scant 1/4 tsp. The water was pretty yellow.

Dues paid!! I don't use anything in the water unless I have sick chicks like the last batch I got (what a nightmare that was!) so I can't advise you, but I do know that even the back of most of those packages say to have fresh clean water also available, so I think to be on the safe side, I'd dilute it or start over.
