Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Well yesterday was the big day! We moved our two week old chicks out to the coop brooding area my husband generously built for me!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaand they LOVE it! (I was so worried!! It is supposed to dip back into the 30’s this weekend) and if course I’m nervous but I just can’t worry because I’ve done everything I can to ensure their warmth and safety!

On another hilarious note, today I let the chicks explore the coop area while my hens were free ranging and my sweet hen, Digger, decided to check out the brooder to make sure it was satisfactory to her standards!! She’s a small Americana a d has always been unbelievably observant. She’s a quiet, confident, sweet hen who is never mean but definitely holds her own. I’m hoping she might get a broody instinct and protect the chicks! She is so interested in them. But of course supervised!
I’ll post pictures!

And if I can I’ll attempt to attach a video of Digger Eurosong me by getting into the brooder through the chick size opening!!!

Ok I literally don’t know how to attach a video!! 😆🙄😂

Ok, so with the chicks being able to touch their backs to the heating pad/brooder plate, what should the temp be right up against, for the first week?

I have eggs in lock down (first time incubating!) and I’m nervous about their transition!

The surface of most plates/pads are 100-120°F.
It can be checked with an infrared temp gauge.

Ok, great! Mine was at 101 when I checked last, and I assumed that was warm enough. I hope so, because it was on the highest setting.
