Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

We human beings are so different form each other and so similar.....

Never mind the differences physiologically between the sexes.

One teeny thing pointed that out to me when I was growing up.

Take two humans male and female same physical fitness same body weights. Put them in scuba gear and send them down to to the same tasks. When they come up the woman will have more oxygen in her tank.

Men simply burn more energy hour to hour...

I soo hope Blooie is having a good night Not being woken up too many times....

How could anybody know how much chocolate or chips they can consume safely.? We are the guinea pigs. What happened to scientific studies that are supposed to rule every breath we take?

Well, I sorta mindlessly ate over half a bag while sitting at the computer...

Yup - hence the diet diary. Anyone will tell you that red wine triggers migraines - except it doesn't trigger mine. And chocolate didn't for most of my life. Some folks are triggered by citrus or tomato products...

Yup - hence the diet diary. Anyone will tell you that red wine triggers migraines - except it doesn't trigger mine. And chocolate didn't for most of my life. Some folks are triggered by citrus or tomato products...

Others are triggered by nuts aand cheeses....trust me the list of migraine triggers is long. Quite honestly, I commend you for doing the diet to figure it out. There are so many triggers, i just couldn't bear to do the elimination diet.

Interesting little note, I have had migraines my whole life. I recently begun seeing a chiropractor and he as helped me identify that a lot of mine are caused by my axis bone (the first bone in the spine) becoming misaligned as well as my c2 disk being out of place. It has been amazing, as I have been through 3 cervical fusion and never thought I would see a chiropractor that could help my neck and headaches so much. In fact in the past any work done on my neck and shoulders would send me into a tailspin usually with migraines.

Just some migraine facts

Geez with this list, a person should live in a bubble, that is what it feel like sometimes.

Not on these list but has been told to me is a migraine trigger is acidic fruit.

Darn that ark for allowing them to board!

Interesting thought on migraine triggers. I know that one of my biggies in light. Especially if I'm inside so my pupils are a bit dilated, and I look outside on a bright day. If the light hits my eyes the wrong way, it's game over! I know that I've not been getting enough sleep. A new puppy will do that to you! Otherwise, I know that my neck plays a role in it. When I was burying the apron around the new run, for every few hours of pick axe or otherwise moving soil, I'd pay with 2 days worth of head aches. Food? Those migraines, the neuro or visual ones are so few and far between I can't imagine finding any kind of food trigger. But, it pays to pay attention, for sure.

Migraines? Despicable indeed. Mom suffered from severely debilitating migraines - me not so bad. I have not been able to define food triggers for me. Possible triggers that I have defined are: rapid weather change, bright lights, stress, disrupted sleeping patterns.

I'm glad you did, the update deserves notice.

IMO Large and Bold is emphasis and not a shout. I type in caps all day long at work. A lot easier and quicker than shift - key use. When I first posted anything on the net got scolded for shouting, DH had to explain that one to me.

ALL CAPS AND NO PARAGRAPHS MAKES FOR HARD READING!

LG, that makes me dizzy just reading what you go through. I am really sorry you have those.

I know very little about migraines. I hear 'quiet', 'dark room', 'no movement', etc.

Yep on all three. Normal conversation volume is PAIN volume when you have a migraine.

I used to get migraines...not as bad as yours but bad enough. I was told that regular Gatorade helps...not the G2 or any of them other ones, maybe worth a try. I haven't had one in a while so never tried it....I hope you feel better soon.

I don't know about regular vs other Gatorade but stay away from artificial sweeteners. Not only are some carcinogenic, they are frequently migraine triggers.

When I went to a headache specialist when I was younger, I went on a specific "headache diet" that was pretty restrictive with regard to items that may trigger headaches. Then you add things back slowly, one by one, to discover what foods may trigger them.

Been there, done that. Cottage cheese on flour tortillas got REALLY boring while "purging". Figure 2 weeks every time an "add back in (and TOO much of it so it will trigger if it is something that you are only slightly sensitive to)" triggers a migraine. It is like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer and deciding if it hurts.

I stay 110% away from my absolute triggers (like MSG, artificial sweeteners) and occasionally eat a little of something I am less sensitive to. I figure I'm walking with a buffer between the migraine and me and as long as I don't step off the "sidewalk" too often and I get back on it quickly, I'm good. It has worked pretty well for years. Still triggered by things I can't control, like people and shops with "nice smelling" man made fragrances. The cleaning aisle at the grocery store used to be tolerable. Now I have to test my ability to hold my breath. The stink doesn't say in the packaging.

Given any single person will be triggered by a subset of the known food triggers, you can't do absolutes. Would be nice if they could!

My older daughter with the 24x7x "nearly 9 years now" migraine recently started seeing a massage therapist that does Bowen. Suggested by an acquaintance of mine who's niece's migraines were helped by her. When she and I talked before I made the appointment (had to make sure the place didn't have man made fragrances) she mentioned the same thing related to lower parts of the spine being impacted or misaligned can put pressure on glands all the way up in your head. DD1 had 3 sessions, no positive impact on migraine right off (and not expected) but other parts were feeling better.

Then the therapist slipped on ice in a parking lot, fell and broke her arm

So now we need to find another one, hopefully closer to home. I find 3 in the city just 10 minutes north of us. Better than the 35 minute drive we had been doing. My acquaintance said the therapist actually trained up here so if I can figure out which one it was

and that they don't do man made fragrances, we should be good.

DD1 has special "migraine glasses" that are tinted pinkish orangish in a fashion that cuts out light wave frequencies linked to migraines. She wears them anytime she is outside and even inside on sunny days.

Nah, we don't consider it hijacked! See, I look at it this way - if I was sitting on my front porch chatting with friends, we'd be doing this same thing - kinda jumping from topic to topic rather than just talk about the same stuff over and over. Honestly most of what needs to be said about the system, how it works, what doesn't work, and why MHP works so well has been pretty much covered in the first couple of dozen We're at the point where we answer a lot of questions, ooh and ahh over photos of new chicks, and get a little off track sometimes. But as a question, and everyone is right back on track! I have grown to love many of the people here even before this thread was started, added lots of others to that list after it started, and eagerly look forward to meeting new members of the Broody Brigade. One of the things most folks like about this thread is the informal, friendly feeling. So if we get off track sometimes, that's okay. Just come on in, type "topic" and we're right back under the heating pad again. :D

And I realized that I forgot to answer your other question from yesterday:lau. Duh, Diane! No, it wasn't a 911 situation. Ken drove me the 6 miles to the hospital, I had some tests and treatment started there, then they sent me by ambulance (no lights and sirens) to the nearest big medical center, which is 100 miles away in Billings, Montana. Ken followed the ambulance in the car. Things are pretty isolated here, can you tell? :lauAnd thanks for the job you do as an EMT!

Gah! I forgot how quickly chicks grow! They have almost doubled in size in the last few days! We lost one mysteriously overnight, and have one special chick who doesn't eat, so is being hand fed, but most likely wont make it. I think it can't see. The rest of the 25 chicks are thriving little piggies!

Hubby convinced me to keep the babies in the house longer, so he could fine tune the coop more, and because he knows I like being able to sit an watch chick TV. So the Chicks are in our unheated mud room. So babies now have a bigger makeshift brooder from a paint tarp, a green house frame, duck tape, and a guinea pig cage. Also added the second heating pad- so now the MHP frame measures 13" deep by 30" long. One heating pad is slightly warmer (the new one that just is on or off), and the older one is set at Med. The chicks seem happy, they use both sides equally, as well as hopping up on top.
