Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I do not mean to hijack this thread but I have a question. Months ago I attempted this however all the heating pads I found had an auto shut off. After an hour or so they click off as a safety feature. What do you recommend?
Sassy the Sunbeam model #756-500 works perfect for me. Its 12x15 and its not digital. It stays on continually. It turns back on after a power failure too.
I got one for 13.+ bucks online.
Good luck on your endeavour.

@Blooie , or anyone else lol.

I am putting together my MHP today, but my question is, does the metal frame and / or chicken wire on the bottom side where the chicks will be huddling in for the heat, need to be covered with a towel? Will the wire get to hot from the heating pad to possibly burn them? I have a small towel tapped up so it will be between the chicks and the wire, but I can see it is not going to last very long.
I put a zippered travel pillow case over it, that way they can't get trapper inside it, The towel over that ....they love to sit on it

I have my pad right on the wire the frame. Heat or burning is not an issue, but I did worry about them getting stuck when they were tiny and all piled up. So for peace of mind and especially if you have a lot of chicks (I have only 6) I would cover with a pillowcase

x2 Putting the entire assembly in a pillowcase tends to resolve a lot of potential problems. If you're not sure how to do that, @Beekissed posted how she does it and it makes good sense. Here's a link to that page:

Thank you everyone for your help! I now have a pillowcase over it, and its all set and ready for the chicks to arrive in 2 weeks. I am so excited, but very nervous as well. My first time as a chicken momma! I love reading thru the threads on here and learning what works and doesn't work for everyone. My whole inspiration for the coop and run design, right down to brooding the chicks in the coop has come from all you wonderful and knowledgeable people!

Few of my 2 week chicks.

Yeah that's the deal, I don't want it too bright...it's hard to buy something like this online and unfortunately I don't think any place around here sells anything similar :/

So we're 50/50 on this light so far LOL! Anyone else have input?
