Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Just a large yogurt container and a funnel that fit with tip cut off just above bottom of container.

@aart what did you use fo the bedding forthe chicks I'm curious!! Your chicj home is amazingly awesome
Same mix (sand and PDZ) that I use on my poop boards.....details here...https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...raphic-gross-poop-pictures/1100#post_13179595

@aart do u use the warm fabric? ?? I forgot what's it called and why do you put a lid on top?
It's an 'MHP'....just a little different than most, details here https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/pseudo-brooder-heater-plate

Nice brooder setup, @aart I can see the care and the experience that went into it! Curious: what kinds of chicks hatched? And congrats on new babies!! Most adorable pics! Is 50% to be expected when hatching....that is what I am thinking...?
Traded the 5 main wood parts of brooder build for some concrete fountains I made with a woodworker buddy.....
...I added doors, bottom and meshed it.....I love it, comes apart for flat storage in about 10" x 36" of floor space

Hatched chicks were F1's from Wellsummer cock over blue laying EE..... and BC1's from that same cross last year.

Meh...I figure anything above 50% is fair and pretty common and I kind of plan on 50's when I set eggs....50% will hatch, 50% will be males haha.

I hate that part......want these, but not that bad, HN's work just as well in most cases.

I relegated the "offers' to the junk  mail file. so when I got my confirmation on the order I had to go to junk mail to dig it out.

Can't you turn off emails though? Most of those things habe an unsubscribe thing I had thought. I do get emails from them but not that many. Maybe i just don't rrad them. Though i did get one today and do get a lot about their articles and "trainign" i might see if there's an unsubscribe option. I am sure there is. I bought a few leashes from them.

I call that my 25% rule.. 40 eggs will be 10 girls....Unless like my last hatch it was 19 boys to 3 girls...

Wow thanks so much for sharing such a great idea. I thought about using a heating pad and was not sure how to go about it. I ordered an EcoGlow last night on line which I really can not afford but was in a panic because our weather here in Texas goes up and down but luckily never as cold as your weather. Now I need to go outside and find some wire to make my cozy cave for them.\\
