Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

It's all so quiet here. Not a peep. The heating pad is amazing. I'm going to try sending pics once my iPhone cooperates.
Sorry I don't join the conversation. There are so many posts it's hard to follow. But I hope all is well w everyone.
Just pop in when you can....shoot, most of the time I can't even keep up!

And to think my roommates think were wa-ay out in the boonies because it's a whopping 35 miles to Columbia (city folk, phsth)!

Congrats on the hatching! Any more? You never answered that one...

Just the two, but I don't know if the Cream Legbar will make it. Naval looks really rough, can't get one eye open despite warm bath with a cotton ball. <sigh> And of course, it's a little pullet too! She looked terrible when she hatched...all covered in yuck and nasty stuff. So we'll see. That stubborn Green Magnolia is still rocking in the incubator but no pips or anything yet.

My chicks have spent their first day in the garage. The high today was 52. They seemed great. No huddling or anything. It's supposed to get down to 34 tonight but I know they'll do great.
Yayyyy! So did you have the obligatory "my chicks are going outside and I need a glass of wine" wine? I've got Yokel under MHP but the little Creamette (as Ralphie calls the girls) is in the incubator fluffing from her wash.

Bucket O Chicks!!.....rounded them all up for re-banding, rigged a tote with small door in cardboard 'lid'.....
....then pulled 'em out one at a time to re-band before releasing. It got warm inside that tote.

Rearranged MHP while they are confined, raised it up.
They had gotten between the towel and pad at some point, lots of poops in there.
Put the board back on there over the pad and under the white towel

Stylin' the new Anklet

New 'playground' config.

Dust bathing on roost board.

Lounging and preening on the straw pile.

So this is what I came home to today. I'm assuming that it was to warm in the MHP? I had it on 6. I turned it down to 4 and waited a bit and poked them back under there. They are still in there and all is quiet. I'm guessing that's good. Should I just leave it on 4 or try 5 or just stop overthinking the entire thing.

They may have gotten 'lost'...or too warm.

I found my babies are the most comfortable with the pad (Sunbeam Xpressheat) set at about 4. My MHP is in an arch shape, about 7" peak height, the pad extends all the way down. This setting puts the ambient temp inside at around 80F. If they need more they can cuddle against the wall; less they move towards the center or go outside for a piece.
