Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

I'm not sure what expected measurements are at but we're expecting the fluffy white stuff ourselves here in Cheyenne. I have family in from out of the county and I have a bad feeling DIA might be crazy on Sunday...

Sounds like you might have been over thinking it Terry. I have learned myself that rule number one is to not think too much!

Thanks....yuck. Personally sick of the snow, worked turning our raised beds today preparing our garden. Had the flock turning the beds and enjoyin the 80 degree day!

You have snow coming??? Again?? You guys have been hammered this winter and spring! Sheesh, am I glad I'm up here in the Banana Belt!

I had my first Turkey hatch of the year yesterday.

I was leery of using the MHP on them..

It is amazing even a bird as dumb as a new born turkey can use them!

I have a few pictures at:

PLEASE DO NOT OPEN THEM IF ULITIMATE CUTENESS OFFENDS YOU...

I have a confession to make also, I have given up trying to read every post on this thread. I try to keep up as best as possible, but this time of year I am so busy, I actually have things to do besides sit at the putor all day. I know hard for those of you to know me to believe isn't it...

Have a great Day, and please NO mentioning snow for 6 more months! I do not have time for snow talk now.

I was so sure my chicks were fine their first night in the garage that I even showered and dressed first before I ran out to check in them. They were of course just doing chicken business as usual :)

Ok, I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant to try the MHP with the inside brooder. I received my babies this morning, and had a totally different set up for them to be in for the first 24 hours before moving them outside to the coop with the MHP. After watching and observing them all day, I finally said "forget it!", took apart the original set up, and put in the MPH in one of the tubs.
Silly me for even thinking this might not work very well in the tub! I set it up, let it get up to temp, put all 9 fluff butts under it, and didn't hear a peep for over an hour! LoL Last check, 1 was out eating, 4 were sitting on top of the MPH, and the other 4 were still snuggled in.

Oh so sorry for ever doubting!!

Nice setup

Frankly, I think that the "Doubting Thomas" that tries something they aren't convinced will work and finding it works not only better than they had thought it MIGHT but far better than the "they say you have to do it this way" method is the best "salesman". Not to diminish the positive reviews of those that trust up front! Soon, hopefully, those that use a heat lamp will be the minority. We will refrain from sending them PMs saying they are killing their chicks

Are you all expecting a storm? Forecast here is calling for 6-8 inches of snow over the weekend, we will see.....

Nope! Forecast is that the sky cover will increase to 1% at AM Friday. Rising to 14% by 8 PM. Solar array working today

All the way up to 41.5 here now. Finally, spring arrives in New England! And on the plus side: MHP works wonderfully to "incubate" seeds! My asparagus has broken ground at 9 days when it's supposed to take 2 - 8 weeks to sprout!!!! Many chicks have been killed by heat lamps. I'll not be pointing fingers, except for the folks who stick a 250W bulb over a tiny little box of chicks in the house, and cook the poor things. Might as well put them in a crock pot.

And pray tell, how are you incubating seeds using the MHP? Inquiring minds want to know....at least we are not off topic, since this is the MHP thread...

Simple, you use it the OPPOSITE way you set up the MHP brooder. Put it on the bottom and put the seed trays on top. Same as any seed germination pad. Given the heating pads we are using for MHP are machine washable, a bit of water getting through from the plants isn't a concern.
