Tell me, how old do your kids have to be before you quit worrying about them? Kenny and Jenny are both in their 40s....is it time yet?

Well, anytime....but.....probably not gonna happen as long as they and you are alive.

...and just like kids, the second one is way easier just because you've been thru most the 'firsts' already.

Toe pecking is pretty common, they figure out fast they can't eat them.

Aha! I believe that the entire parenting journey is, in large part, the exercise of letting go, bit by bit, starting from the moment of birth. One of the greatest challenges life can bring us...so that some worry will always be with us...the trick is to have it lessen a little over time...another way of putting it is that if a parent didn't worry some, I would be concerned! (Of course none of what I said has to do with providing structure and discipline, which would be the eternal balancing act until, perhaps, they move out into the world). That being said, I read and thoroughly enjoyed your post about children with disabilities and therapy chickens!! I did work with folk with disabilities, not often with kids tho....whole different story, that...

@bruceha2000 Yes, there is lots of ventilation. Two huge windows in the front (with both screen and hardware cloth), as well as a vent all along the top, back wall and a louvered fan for the really bad days, My husband wanted the big waterer and feeder. I tried to convince him they didn't need it, but you know men...bigger is better. I'll have to see about putting the feeder and water up a little bit off the shavings. Do you think bricks would do the trick? I do have marbles weighing them down.

@KDOGG331 Thanks! We love the coop too. We actually ordered it from a Mennonite company up in Georgia and they built and delivered it to us. It's 5x8 with 8 nesting boxes and great ventilation. Being in Florida, that was a huge concern for us and with what they charged, we couldn't have built it for that (nor would it have looked nearly as nice).

My chicks were not pleased about the cleaning of the brooder today. Hopefully they will be all worn out from their immediate need to mess it up again. I'm glad my chick with the hurt leg seems to be doing better. Not lifting her foot or limping anymore. My other chick with the strange lump on her belly still has that lump but is totally normal as well.

This MHP idea is just amazing! Took a few times of shoving their lil butts in there and they've grasped it No more screeching...content little babies. I've seen chicks in a brooder and it makes me tired just watching them and after a few minutes I can't stand the screeching anymore LOL! MHP=AWESOMENESS!!

Has anyone washed their MHP yet? I had mine outside and it got wet. When I took it out when the chickens were not using it any more and took off the press and seal it was quite moist (nasty). I've got it in the washing machine and will run it with the dog towels on a gentle cycle but just wondering if anyone has washed one successfully?

I know the press and seal is not really quite water proof....maybe wet poops got thru....or was it exposed to rain?...spilled waterer?
Not sure what brand heating pad you have.

Had two birds in coop partition for egg ID.......one chick door open about 4" x 4"....she got thru and was in the other run when I wen to close up tonite!!!!
SHM
