Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

"Heated Drinker Base, Set Your Metal Drinker On This Base To Prevent Water From Freezing Down To 10 Degrees Fahrenheit, Base Is Thermostatically Controlled & Has 125W Of Power, Use It Outdoors In A Dry Covered Area."

Several caveats there. The "outdoors" thing suggests there is concern of it overheating and causing a fire. Could just by CYA legal stuff though.

I would be concerned about such things. Whatever it is plugged into best be GFI and protected. I'll bet a lot are used without considering that. Not sure what they have inside but I ASSUME there is a waterproof grommet where the cord goes through the pan.

I guess to an extent my heated dog dish is somewhat similar though since it doesn't have to transfer heat up through a separate container to keep the water warm it doesn't need to get as hot. It only has a 60W heater. Plus the one you showed says good to +10°F, this one was working fine when it was -22°F yesterday morning. Mine is inside the barn and the plug is 4' off the ground so no chance of it getting wet.

Mine, the instructions said use only indoors. In a clean dry area away from water.

Um... do I go about using a water heater away from water?

I have it plugged into a gfci plug protected from rain, splashes, anything short of straight horizontal aimed water but still a water heater with instructions to used in a DRY location!

You see water is my problem. If I didn't have to have water heaters I could give the babies all the power out in the coop that they could want. Its only safe to split plugs so far. Don't want to over load the circuts.

No alerts? Hmmm...do you have a "watched threads" tab on the main screen? I usually look there to see if anyone posted. (the "alert" thingy confuses me - new posts are in yellow until you click on one or if you wait too long to click on any, then they are all the same stoopid color! Hard to know what I've seen and what I haven't so I ignore it)

Sooo, i found this set up on another thread.

I finally figured out what To do I found 2 pieces of shelving that were 14”x14” and I zip tied them to make a rack that is a about 23” long by 14” wide and ordered the 12x24 heating pad with no auto shut off. Now the dilemma is I took it upstairs were I have the hardware clothe dog crate set up and the crate is only 24”wide by 36” long so I think this will be too big. What do you think? I can always do one 14x14 grate and the 12x15 heating pad.

I'm sure it's been discussed before but I am not going to aimlessly wonder through over 1000 pages :)
I have 22 chicks coming in a few weeks.
I brought out my EcoGlow that I've had for 4 years now, cleaned it, and went to move it to the lower level, and I BROKE IT. Perfect..
So, I am thinking I'll do the heating pad method for the new littles (in my basement).
I will obviously need the bigger heating pad that has been discussed (12x24 i believe?) but will I need two? Or will 1 suffice for my chickies?
