Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

The mama heating pad in my coop is working awesome! I started my flock today with 6 chicks from Meyer. About 30 minutes after introducing them to water I noticed them huddling in a spot where the sun was shining through a ventilation window and loudly chirping (ambients were 75). I placed each one under the MHP and they took a silent nap for 30 minutes. They have been out and about and returning for silent naps throughout the day ever since!

It is a little funny when I am out there putzing around (installed a tarp on the run roof, coop ramp, old step ladder for a chicken playground etc today while I was home from work) and I hear one loudly chirping as if it is cold. It always turns out that 5 are under the MHP and the noisy one is “lost” and looking for them!

Typical....funny but can get annoying when they are in the house.
I'll often just yell and that gets them moving for cover.

Pretty slow here as chick season is about over (for most).
Surprised the coop building forum is not busier.
I'm on day 3 of full integration....crazy this year with 2 age groups of youngsters.

Welcome to the Broody Brigade, @Doc7. Seems there's often that one chick no matter how they're being raised! But Mama Heating Pad does work well!

Don't know if everyone knows this already, but I just talked to Sunbeam today and the lady said they have upgraded all of their heating pads to auto-off. I trolled eBay just now and put a bid on one (please don't snipe me! lol) and bought another outright hoping they're old enough to stay on. The one I'm pretty sure is because they showed the tag that warns against sleeping with it.

So, might want to hurry up and scrounge around.

Good heads-up! But those made before that upgrade will probably still available be on the market, since Sunbeam won’t want to pull them all and lose the money. I hope!

Hopefully, but I was having trouble finding the right one on Amazon, thus checking Sunbeam directly, so.... I figured I'd hoard a couple just in case

Does that mean the auto-off feature cannot be disabled?

Boy I hope that isn't the case! Maybe Sunbeam needs to be informed that their pads have a big market in the chick raising world!

I live-chatted with a representative and asked her, "Do you still make any heating pads without the auto-off feature?" and she replied, "All of our heating pads have been upgraded to auto-off."

Next question would be, can you still disable the auto-off?
