Thanks for the reassurance @bruceha2000. Didn't realize Blooie was MIA. Glad mixing them shouldn't be an issue either. I am over ducklings and chicks inside my house lol. Honestly though, this MHP method has been amazing. I wish I would have started it with the ducklings as well, but only have the one heating pad. I really need to get another one as a backup though.

I have one of those cozy coop flat panel chicken heaters but the ducks prefer the ceramic heat bulb over that, so I am not sure the MHP would be received any better.

Temps of 1* & 3*F make me a bit nervous, but luckily there is a camera set up in the coop and it has sound so if I hear excessive peeping then I can always move them to a warmer place or add some supplemental heat.

Good to have a backup, especially with 2 batches of chicks.
They might get along just fine, or you may need to split your brooder are with wire.
How big are your pads and how many chicks in each batch?
Does your brooder have a top?

Chicks are all in the coop. This is my first time having chicks, so there was no need to separate from a "big" flock. The ducklings have their own area, separated by chicken wire, from the batch of chicks that I received last week. The chicks have their own area set off with chicken wire, but where they can see and interact with the ducklings. There is not a lid to the brooder areas. I am probably going to have to figure out something soon to keep the little contained and separate from the ducklings.

It happened in the afternoon while I’d let the chickens out to free range in the chicken yard a fenced 1/3rd acre. All the coyotes did was get over a 5 ft fence. I went inside for about 30-45min and came back out to a massacre.

Oh, geez! That’s sad! I have a free-range Plott hound which seems to keep bears detouring around my place. I’m out in the country where people are armed and there’s plenty of room for the coyotes and bears to keep clear of people.
