Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Low medium high. Supposed to be the fabled Sunbeam 732-500 that isn't supposed to auto-off. Well, its a 732-500 but it has auto off.

According to my IR, it's actually cooler inside than the 150 incandescent. They're at least playing on top of it right now, so at least they're not scared of it anymore.

I think they just want to explore today though, I've already had one get out of the cage, so I threw in a mirror and some other stuff to keep them occupied. From the time I originally posted till now, 5 of them have been pecking at their shadows constantly. They'll figure it out.

Where exactly are you aiming the IR dot?
Pads and bulbs generate heat differently.
Pads measure the pad surface itself...bulbs measure the ground/floor under the bulb.
At the face of the pad, low, medium, and high sides, on low, med, and high settings. It doesn't even feel all that warm to me honestly, but everybody is happy and playing so they must be doing ok. lots of 5 minute power naps

My pad surface reads about 120°F on high.

My 8 GIRLS (fingers crossed) will be three weeks old in a couple of days and all is well.... so far.
They sleep inside their little den at night but are all over the place during the day.
I’ve noticed they do like to nap on top of the den; for the warmth, I’m sure.
They enjoy the grape vine perches. Gives them plenty of practice using their wings.

I love the branches in there. As soon as the snow clears here :) I plan on putting a couple in with my checks also. I just don’t feel like digging down under a couple feet of snow to find some. This is the second year I have used the heating pad method and I really like it. I have used it both indoor and outdoor. From 3 to 5 chicks. And I showed a friend of mine also and she thought it was great to. Wonderful method I would recommend to everybody if they can possibly do it.

Honeys......I'm HO-OME! Thanks for holding down the fort, my stalwart best buddies. Way too much has happened in the last weeks to go into it all, but suffice it to say that most of it involves non-stop traveling!
:gig Welcome back.....I figured(hoping) you were just traveling.
