You know me too well!! Tried to buy eggs a few days ago. Went to 3 stores and they had none - not a single carton. Since I’m afraid that’s gonna get worse before it gets better, buying new chicks was self-defense!

Baby Fever! My recent batch, started outside, enjoying MHP. I made a towel cover with velcro this year. They're now 12 weeks and uhhh you make such a good point about eggs, I find myself checking out feed store hours this weekend... It's all in the chicken math!!

You better give them extra fertilizer so they grow fast and start laying at 4 weeks

I only ordered 8. I really didn’t want chickens at all - I was rather enjoying not trudging through snow in the bitter cold to do chores. As it is we’re having to put the run back up because we’d taken it down thinking the construction equipment would need the space to do the building of our new house. And then too, Ken and I are getting a little old to get more birds than we can handle.

I am happy to report that part of “chicken math” can also be subtraction.

The new house is closer to the coop right? Especially after the deck goes on? Less snow to trudge through though I agree, that part of winter chicken keeping isn't a big draw to the "hobby".
