The difference between mobile and manufactured are that mobile are not on permanent foundation and still have wheels under them manufactured has permanent foundation and no wheels .

here in Michigan that is how they tell diffrence
 
"Trailer trash" is a mindset and has nothing to do with the house you live in.

Hubby got a real hang up about mobile home even both of us lived in one. Then my family graduated in a double wide, it was great but poor insulation back in the early 70's. It was affordable back then for my parents.

I love the new MH! Mods and Manf homes! They are built better than they ever did when I was growing up. Hubby still thinks they are poorly built.

Insurance and loans are the two hang ups, many times, they will NOT give you one unless you have alot of money to back it up or a much higher deductable if wanted to get full insurance.
 
A home is what you make of it, and it sounds like you have a wonderful home. Acreage in the Smokeys, how does it get better than that??

I put a mobile home on the 10 acres I bought here in Florida, and loved it. I did eventually build a site built house on here and sold the trailer, but if that hadnt of happened, I would have been just fine in my mobile home. It was very comfortable, a roof over my head, reasonable electric. It was great.

Ive never been much worried about what other people say about my situation. Unless they are paying my bills, they have no right to. As long as you and your family are happy, thats whats most important.

Trailer trash. I like that. My mother bought a nice modular home and hers was situated in an upscale mobile home park. I would refer to her home as a trailer and talk about the trailer park just to get her goat. She would always remind me it was not a trailer, it was manufactured housing. It was mean of me but she could be a bit snobby at times. And it was revenge for listening to her gripe endlessly about my goats and chickens. That said, the only thing wrong with her house was where it was situated. The park had a strict and very unreasonable HOA and I locked horns with them many times when I was staying there on occasion while she was in the hospital. The home itself was quiet, roomy, well insulated, bright and airy inside, and well laid out. It was easy and economical to maintain. Heating and air conditioning costs were low. She loved it.

I don't know how to deal with the detracters except to smile sweetly and thank them for their opinion. In addition I would tell them to mind their own business and to keep their negativity to themselves, but that's me. You might keep some informational flyers on manufactured houses on hand and pass them out to the naysayers. Tell them they need educating. Why does it matter what other people think, anyway? It is your home and your life.
 
Our first home is a 1782 sq ft Palm Harbor manufactured home. It is on a pit set foundation, sided in hardy plank and an asphalt roof.

It is very well built. It was also well set up, which is so important.

I had my reservations when we were looking, but we bought a model home with tons of upgrades and we loved it and our tenants there are very happy.

I like your idea about having some info handy for the naysayers. Unless it is brick and site built they think that it is not a real home, makes
me so mad. I may just do that, I think they would be very surprised at what they may learn.
