Many people getting lay-offs yet?

My friend's employer - a financial services corp - laid off her entire dept yesterday. My sister said she had laid off 50 of her employees in the last three weeks.

WHo else?

There's been big layoffs going on in MI for the past year. (well, more than a year) MI has the highest unemployment rate right now. It's hard to find work for the people who do get laid off. My SIL was informed that she'd be laid off, just a month after they completed their $60,000 remodel on their home. Thankfully she had 3 mos notice, and happened to get lucky and found a job from someone who was retiring. Not everyone around here is so lucky though. One brother has been laid off from GM for a year now. The other brother is barely hangin' onto his job.

My DH is working on his resume, he thinks the job he has been at for 20 some years is about to go. Very scary just before the holidays. We just bought this house a year ago...his income pays the majority of the bills including this new mortgage.

My SIL was laid off after 15 years on his job,his problem in getting a new job is his age,after 50 no one wats to hire you.

No lay-offs here yet but no jobs either. I been trying to find a jobfor 3 months now and still nothing!

I found out my job was being eliminated at the end of July, I was offered a temporary postion that will take me to December and then I will be laid off. I have a decent package though that will take me with income into end of February. I am one of the lucky ones though....Not many people have so much time to deal with it and plan. I consider it a blessing in many ways. I am in the building materials industry so the housing market downfall has affected many areas. Not sure what I will do or where I will go. There are so many people in the job market right now. I can always sell eggs.....LOL.

My husband works for the Department of Corrections,thier hiring more now.They allways need more Correctional officers (AKA-prision gaurd)

They have had some lay-offs where my OH works. They don't give any notice though. They just walk up to you, say you are no longer needed, and escort you out the door.

in 2002 dh worked for enron and i was working for kmart, need less to say we've been there, i lost our house in the process, it was the house or the car and truck, you can't go to work if you don't have a car (no such thing as public trans here)

Well, I work in human services, so the reasons for my job will always exist. However, as hard times hit the state and federal legislatures, we are expected to do more and more with less and less (and less, and less...).
Our direct care workers make $9 and change per hour for doing one of the hardest jobs there is. Many years we see no cost-of-living raise at all, and in the years we do see one, it averages about 2-3%. Needless to say, we are always hiring! Our turnover rate is astronomical! I have a position open right now and no applicants - come on up!
