Interesting...this past weekend at a local poultry show in Syracuse, the comment I got from a judge was "he won because he was in the best condition"..

I printed the Standard for the Black Copper Marans from this site. Unfortunately very few APA Judges use this site & I expect few have gone looking for the breed standards. At this point I suspect that a lot of Marans re being judged on condition as many judges don't have a standard description to work from.
