This is my BCM Cockeral and his sisters. I hatched him and the two females who are just 12 weeks old... (I thought they were older).

If anyone is interested, they come from Bev Davis and Wade Jeane lines.

Well Pinkchick I am a 1/2 hour south of Portland so It is really close... Sounds like we have a working game plan.. I will have to get with Madelynbelle and see what stock she has for sale now

eh, but for me - that's a LONG drive - Up to Gig Harbor, back down all the way to Aberdeen, then back home, for one hen. . .

My family liked the idea, except for the long drive. We're talking over 6 hours on the road.

In Dec 2009, I made my first chick purchases - - - traveled 4 hours round trip and picked up from 3 different locations. I got some wyandottes, leghorns, EE's and Marans. I have been hooked on the Marans almost immediately. They were the most laid back of the breeds as chicks - - - the leghorns were flighty and bullies, the EE's were obnoxious and little loud. When they got to be 2 - 3 months, the marans were the first to jump up on the perches to see us. They would talk to us and watch us. When we would feed the herd, the marans were the only ones with any manners. Often, we had to feed these girls treats separately because the others were so piggish, that the marans wouldn't get much. EVEN NOW - -- these girls would rather eat out of our hands than eat off the ground.

PESONALITY - - - sold me on marans.

Illia:.... Two hens???? You haven't seen the hens.. Ya good point.. hmmm... I have to think about this... How to make it worthwhile??? Any ideas Pinkchick... I would pay for my own eggs and chick from Madelynbelle and you would just pick them up and pick up two hens from me for the trouble??? That is a win win there!! I will do this if she has youngstock that I can have you get....Not eggies. How far from you is Gig Harbor????

Oh and Illlia... This can be well planned and a while away.... I just thought it would be a great way to get rid of a couple of really great hens that don't go with my stock but I just love em... They are really nice and lay a fabulous eggie... I sold BC pairs from her for 100 dollar and 75 dollars not too long ago... She reproduces herself. I have a Splash, Blue and a Cuckoo that are compatible to your line and I keep them because they are so nice.. They are the last of the Davis blood that I have. I am really concentrating on the Wade line but the offspring from these girlies are real popular... I think I might hatch another pair from the blue hen just so my daughter has a pair of Blue Coppers... They are carbon copies everytime....Very predicatable... Feather feet... good length of back... Correct eye color and a true copper hackle. Really nice blue... very even and not too deep.

Hello,
I'm loving the news letter this morning...
We have some new week old baby Slikies, they are so cute and also have a variety of laying hens
We love them all and they are all pets along with our PBP Lilly who also loves chickens and cats.
Looking to add to our colorful egg's and pet chicken collection...Have been wanting some Marans!
Can anyone tell me where we could get a few Dark egg layer's or some hatching egg's(got to plan ahead and get one of the Silkie girls to go broody for egg's)?
Thanks Geri and Russ

Guess I'll chime in as a newcomer. I bought my FBCM pair at Chickenstock in August '09; don't know anything about their bloodlines, but I love them. The poor things live in a hutch and get put into a big dog cage outside during the day unless it's raining. This is because somebody in the main coop is "sneezing" and I don't want to expose the BCMS if there's something contagious there. Never any discharge or funny poop or anything, just that sneezy sound and I'm not sure what to do with the culprits. Don't want to keep them and can't sell them, don't know if the meat would be safe.
In June I bought eggs from proven bloodlines and hatched 2 pullets and 3 cockerels from 7 eggs--not bad for shipped eggs! Still waiting to see how they look as they mature. Also bought 2 cuckoo pullets and a cockerel; these are all in my youngster pen.
I have the materials for my Marans pen--just need to get the time to build it.
I'm glad I discovered this thread--learning a lot from you folks!
