Pink,

MIchigan is alot of fun! Of course others in other states are feeling the storms, too. I had to shovel paths, doorsways, I even shoveled in my runs as the girls did not want to come outside. It has been cold here. I did lose one Welsummer roo Monday night. Could not see any cause. Laying on coop floor frozen, at 7 am when I went to feed and water. It had acted fine the day before in the afternoon.

Thanks for the shout,

HOw are things going out your way, Pink?

Keep smiling!

Dave

Hey Dave, Sorry about your Wellie Roo. That is very sad, maybe the cold was just too much for him.
Well Michigan and the rest of the states that are being hit don't sound too fun right now. I wish everyone the best that is dealing with this massive storm.
Things here are great Dave thanks for asking, birds are good and I think that a couple of the girls that were dragging their feet in the lay dept have started up. I have found a couple of new pullet eggs in the nest boxes the last few days, they are totally speckled and the speckles are almost black....I love speckled eggs! I hope to atleast get one Marans that lays one, that would be total coolness. Say howdy to my fellow Flamingo lover!

Ivy~ So sorry to hear about your goat! That is very sad! I too lost my oldest goatie Auntie Baabs this last summer....DH can't figure out how on earth I can be so attached to my little goaties and my chickens, but little does he know, he is just as attached to his cat, who sleeps next to his head on his pillow..."because it's too cold outside for Oatmeal to sleep out there." Nope he isn't attached to the cat at all.....nooooooooo, huh-uh!

Oh no - - - It is raining cats and dogs this morning. My sunshine and Warmth are missing too. High today is 55. . . .

It is not going to be a good day to do anything outside. So, bring on the marans pictures. . .

Speaking of rain - - - part of my one runs is not covered. I am getting a lot of rain 2 - 3 inches at a time lately. With the cooler temps and the rain - - - the dirt in the uncovered part of my run is getting rank. I tried turning the dirt over so that it could dry out, but we are getting rain every couple of days.

Do you have any suggestions on what to do - - - other than cover the run completely. On Cold days, the girls like to hop up on the perches and Sun themselves. This part of the coop (uncovered) gets the most sun . . . . Although, there hasn't been that much sun lately!

Hey Pink - - -where is every one? It has been like 12 hours and it is totally dead on both marans threads.

Congratulations on the babies. Glad the new incubator is working well.

I don't think a bigger incubator is in my future. 24 chicks is the MOST I can deal with at one time. Mine are 2 weeks old tomorrow. I had the first chick fly to the top of the feeder this morning. So, I will need to be putting the sides up on the brooder today or tomorrow.

Maybe when I get the new pens and brooder cages built, I will be able to do more. I saved a picture of the broodier that kayhinmo built. I think something like that will be next on the honeydo list. Her directions were so good that I think I could borrow Dh's power tools and do it myself.

Well my dear friend....I believe that some folks may just be hunkering down right now. Pretty nasty across the country right now for alot. Hope all are doing well, warm and safe where ever they may be waiting this thing out.

I love the new incubator! It hasn't missed a beat. The only thing I would change about it if I could, is the lower egg tray.....I can't always remember to turn it manually (because I have eggs on the top two egg trays still incubating), and if on automatic, the lower tray when tilted, is dangerously close to the hatching chicks in the hatching tray on the bottom. So for now, I'm trying to remember to turn it manually so it isn't so close to the hatching tray. The auto function tilts the trays to its tilting limit and one side of the lower tray touches the hatching tray below, I'm afraid...if on auto, that a little chickie will pop their head up over the side of the tray (as they do when they see the light coming) and well don't even want to go there...ya know?
