Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

wax.. use parrafin or wax.. they can still hatch... providing there is no bacteria... watch em for stinkies.

Butt inner:... (one it isn't butting in)...join in... you are welcome here... I would find a feather legged male for crossing on them and keep the feather legged offspring for more breeding and showing.. I believe snowbird has a decent example of a feather legged cuckoo as I can recall. Pm him and see if he has eggies or a male he can ship ya... He may be a newnan this weekend.. everybody is going cept a few of us here.. sniff sniff.

Good news for the KC hub I was complaining about. The postmaster called them this morning and asked why they didn't scan. She talked to the guy in charge of delivery confirmation, and he told her that the KC hub is all automated. The only parcels that get scanned are the ones on the conveyor. Parcels like these or any marked fragile, are removed from the belt, and hand cancelled, but they can't be scanned as they no longer have any hand scanner units. I personally find that a tad hard to believe, and maybe now they will get some hand units, but it is nice to know they still pay attention to the FRAGILE parcels and handle them personally. The box was in perfect shape, no football playing with this parcel!

I am supposed to be getting a clean legged Rooster this weekend from a guy at the Newnan show but he said he had some feather legged ones too. I may just tell him I would prefer the feather legged one instead. I was gonna trade him a Salmon Faverolle Hen for a Cockoo Maran Rooster. Is that a good trade?

Good trade depending on the quality of your Fave... I would go with the feather legged one... Snowbird does have the nicest example of a male I have seen... Idon't get around much but it was very nice.

Debbi~

So glad that you have them. Very sorry about the splash egg, hope I didn't do that when I was packing them because the box didn't show any signs of damage. Maybe I pushed down to hard when I was closing up the box. I apologize if it was my fault.

I personally would toss the egg if it is questionable, but if you are going to try and incubate it, I would use clean parafin wax and only enough to put on the effected area. I used scotch tape once on an egg that I dropped when transferring from turner to hatcher, it hatched and it now living the high life on a farm about an hour away and laying lots of eggs.
Lots of luck with them!!!!! Thank you! I am so happy that you are happy with their color. I so hope you get a Bill and Gnarles Jr.
