I haven't done shipped eggs for a long time because I didn't have very good luck with them when I did. This sounds like good infomation. Mybe I'll give it a try...

Oh, my! If I get started with that where will it end? I would probably end up on the street corners trying to sell chicks!

I thought you were my friend.....

At least I've never pulled the big girl panties out for ya!

p.s.-We've got tens of thousands of snow geese in the field across from the house. Awesome amount of noise!

LMAO...Ivy, you had better keep them in your top drawer. That almost doesn't read right!

When are the 20 due to hatch? How many males and how many females? (I realize that they don't ALL hatch...I'm not that new!)

The 20 are set for hatch on March 15th...they are a mix of eggs from both pens. The others I am saving I will be setting whatever day Math sets hers. Her eggs are being shipped on Monday the 28th, if all is go from Lisa, she holds all cards to ship, or not to ship, depending on weather. If she says wait, I will collect new eggs for her and send out the following Monday.....and I'll incubate the eggs I was saving for her this week.

As for the male/female thing....I'll have to ask my crystal egg and get back to you on that.

WHAT? How many shotguns do you think it would take? The gun isn't the problem. Sneaking up on them is a different matter. There's only a bazillion eyes watching you try to sneak close though a wide open field. Not easy.

Well, Pink, you did "candle" them, didn't you?

Hello all,

I am new to Marans, got my first 8 chicks last April, and am looking to increase my knowledge on these wonderful birds. Not to pollute this thread, I've posted my questions about them and my guesses for their genetics here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=456863 if some kind souls would like to offer their opinions. Photos of my 8 below. Once this latest round of snow melts and the flock will go outside I'll try to get some nice full body side views of them each so that I can get some serious critiquing of the individuals to develop an eye for selecting for the future.

I show dogs, chickens are a new thing for me so I'm trying to set type in my own mind and find out what faults I need to work on.

I've got tremendously thick skin, so feel free to pick apart my birds to your heart's content. It'll help me learn.

(edited due to my 2 year old sending this post before I was done typing)

Welcome Hurley to the marans thread. First off, you certainly are not going to pollute this thread by adding pictures of your marans. We love it. Your birds all look nice and healthy, but I am not good at critiquing, but I'm sure others will chime and and give you some good information. Anything I could say would simply be a "guess."

Were your birds all from the same source? I wonder if they all have some coocoo in them.
