When I get those eggs, do you want me to let them rest 24 hours or pop them straight in the incubator ? ?

I guess I better get online and look at the weather forecasts. My weather is looking good, but I don't know what is in between you and me

The weather here for me in Nebraska is supposed to be decent all week...about 40 to 50's most days....Thats really good for this time of the year. I didn't see anything looking too dodgy on the radar online when i looked for this week in the Midwest in general....I'm expecting shipped eggs too, so I've been watchin close. I know its not the whole distance your eggies have to cover, but hopefully it helps a bit to know how it will be in the middle of the country.

Funny contest you 2!!!!!!

Last year when I was working on rebuilding my Welsummer flock....the first hatch of the season was 9 roos and 1 pullet, the very next hatch was all pullets and one cockerel.

Math~

Let them rest for 24 hours.

I'll be watching the weather as well, but, ultimately it will be your call.

I'm seriously crossing my fingers for that batch of shipped eggs I have in the incubator set to hatch this week that it will not be a repeat of the first hatch of the year....

How are ya liking your sportsman so far? sounds like you are making good use of it. I keep telling myself I'm gonna shut it off and i'll wait a bit to do another set of hatches, but I just can't seem to stop. I keep getting orders for chicks and started birds, so luckily I have a use for all the babes, but seriously...the addiction just continues

I seen someone that had some wade jeane black copper marans for sale and said they were wade jeane Rudy roo. And that they were the purest jeane. What is Rudy roo? Is that a different blood line than jeane or the same line?

Pinkchick has 20 that she is hatching for me due on March 15th...I'm saying that this hatch will have the LOWEST percentage of Roos!

Yay...that sounds like a fun surprise to look forward to on the 15th!! You really are going to be all set up in no time at all with all those new ones making their way to you soon

Plus I have a dozen Blue Jersey Giant hatching eggs coming in April...
And 15 hatchery Blue Laced Red Wyandottes coming in April...
Plus I think Pinkchick might also have me some Blue Laced Red Wyandottes coming...

Right now I have 23 total hens/pullets and Madison, the Splash cockerel...
This fall I plan to cull heavy and instead of getting a bunch of hatchery broilers this year, I will butcher any unwanted cockerels...that is if the hatches aren't 90% pullets!

Nice! I do the same thing with the stock I have...the culling heavily in the fall and filling the freezer for the winter. I am going to be culling even heavier than last year since I will be doing larger hatches. Luckily I have a few people wanting some layers and roos to protect them...so that will help reduce numbers too from my hatches. I am much more focused on what I'm looking for in the stock I hatch to improve my lines...so hopefully I'll be keeping less...

The girls I love and can't part with even though they are far from perfect will probably go for my olive egger project and my laying pen. Its really hard to let some of them go because they are sooo sweet and follow me around just wanting to be close...

haha...if a hatch like that ever happens to me again...I'll be shocked....I just kept waiting and waiting for them start developing the combs and etc, and nothing ever happened.

My last hatch that is only a few days old and I will eat my words in a couple weeks if I am wrong, but I don't think so........1 cockerel (brought back from the dead....long story, my stupidity

) and the rest are pullets.
The 2 that hatched the week before that, both pullets.
The hatch the week before that..................all pullets and one cockerel.
I had a pretty good month for females the month before too.

Maybe it comes in yearly waves because the year before last...I was hatching cockerels all year long.
Rooster noodle soup and rooster and dumplings made here, all have a little French twist.... if you will.

Just had rooster and dumplings for dinner the night before last......it was nummmy!

Lovin' IT!!!!! I'm keepin' 'er busy! LOL! Very addictive! Gave up along time ago on trying to seek help for it. Family and friends tried interventions. The interventions were always ugly and nobody understood why I continued to do this to myself.

I think they finally gave up too!
