wow...I don't even have what could be called green grass yet....its funny how just a few hours drive south can make such a difference. I just got home from work and and taking enough time to eat lunch while I check out the forum....then I'm gonna be outside the rest of the day. Its 68 at the moment! I'm loving it. We are in the same boat up here with the severe weather on Monday coming in.

Just checked the incubator...got 5 various little stragglers still hatching...but almost done with the hatch...overall it was a wonderful success!

We have no green grass here at all, we R still buried in snow.

Awww...no good at all! Hopefully spring will hit all of us soon and stay!

Well I have one blue birchen chick but it really looks like it will be a female. The one time I wanted it to be a roo lol. So not sure what I am gonna do with her (breeding plans wise) yet....I've got to get some more birchen eggs!! She came from a fairly light (for Marans) egg so gonna have to improve on that without getting into any copper genes. She has unfeathered shanks as well.

Ok - Trying to determine what is what because I need to determine what I will keep and what I will be selling.
These little guys/gals are 15 days old today - Roo or Pullet? You decide

can't wait to see what Kim says about them... and I wish I were closer to you...I'd take the ones you don't want off your hands...no problem. They are gorgeous! I'm way biased to the blues tho...haha

FOR those fine folks looking for snow in the next couple of days . . . .

This is One of my Three garden plots

I took that picture TODAY while I was taking pictures of my marans for the 6 month photographic study we are doing on the other marans thread.

I'll be updating my photos - - - showing the growth of the chickens over time - - -tomorrow.

This has taken a lot of time on my part, but I have learned a lot and been very happy with the process.

If you don't take pics of your babies and track them over time, I highly recommend you do it. Things that you would just miss all together show up LARGE on the computer screen!

Oh Lisa, I'm soooo jealous of your garden! Looks great! Supposed to get up to 80 here today!

The downside..the wind is blowing at 40 mph!

Small dog wind warnings out.

The chooks had a great time out ranging the yard yesterday. Funny though, as soon as I opened the small pen for the two blue boys to go out, ALL birds ran in there like it was something special.

They devoured all of the food in the feeder, which just happens to be the exact SAME food they have in the coop...go figure. Blue Butt got an early on lesson from one of the pullets. He quickly found out that he's not quite as big and tough as he thought he was, even with his flared hackles!

She jumped on him like a junebug. The big boys, surprisingly, left the two little blue boys alone. I swear, it's like watching a school yard of middle school kids...quite fascinating to me. What really surprised me was how close the cats have become to the chooks. The whole pack of cats followed the flock around the yard. Good hawk deterrants, maybe they are good for something afterall. Even my male German Shepherd was good! I would NEVER leave him unattended with them, as I know that his mindset would go in the other direction as soon as I was not in sight! But, he seems more interested in them when they are IN the run, than out. Life on the funny farm was good yesterday, let's hope for the same today. I WILL be tilling my garden today, wind or not!

Yay! glad the weather will be so nice for you today...the winds I can see past too when the weather gets that nice. I think its supposed to be in the 70's here...haven't heard much about the wind yet, but very rarely is it not windy here.

I hope you get your tilling all done today! I'm still waiting....and in the meantime I'm working on finishing the fence and figuring out the gate situation. I'm going for the repurposed way, so its a bunch of guesswork, which I actually kind of like strangely enough.

Here's to working outside in this crazy thing called sunshine!
