I think that those going for perfection or as close as they can get as soon as they can get it wouldn't want to add blue or splash copper to their process of breeding good black coppers. The refining of black coppers has been in progress much longer, and for the focused purist it doesn't help to add anything new.

I'd give her some more chances. If this was a genetically determined thing, the broiler industry would have exploited it already to breed all male broilers (no tiny cornish game hens). How many eggs from her have you hatched and gotten all roosters?

They were already hatching - - - Three were already out . . .

Hi All,

The main thing to remember when using the genetic formula's is that they deal with color and nothing else. BC over blue and splash will certainly give you Blue Copper. The combination that works best is BC over the splash. You can use the young from this mating in any of your Blue Copper matings. You do not want any of the Blue genes in your Black Copper so do not breed back into your Black Copper. If I were just starting to work on Blue Copper I would use a Splash male over Black Copper female. Then take females out of this and breed to the splash male again.

This is exactly the same for making the Blue Wheaten, I like to use a male in the main color that I want in the chicks. Don

Don thank you for the explanation for once I'm doing something right I have Black Copper girls (2) that made the cut from Blue Coppers so they shouldn't be used with my Black Coppers if I ever get a rooster that makes the cut... and I have 3 nice Black Copper girls who are in with my Splash boy those can be used with a Black Copper rooster.....now the girls from the Blues do not have very much copper is that common with the blues? Out of that hatch I had a split Birchen male and my understanding is that if the hens are not showing the silver they don't have it to pass along.....
