I'm so excited.......my little Baby Blue 2nd generation Bill cross Davis offspring laid her first egg yesterday. It is a very nice size and very lovely color....darker than her mothers egg. It has the prettiest dark Hershey chocolate speckles and dots all over it...I hope she has more spray paint to share on future eggs. Blue's egg is on the paper in front of the carton. rsquared's eggs are in the carton...packing them right now to send out to her.

All 5 of my laying pullets are finally in sync, and I've gotten 5 eggs a day, for the last 2 days!

Is everyone but us sleeping in this morning??

I awoke to 70* temps this morning at 6:15! Be sure, we'll be paying for it later today... In the meantime, I'm going to mow the grass...again!

Thanks Friends!

Debbi~ Pullets first eggs have always been my favorites! I love how small and petite they are. I squeal in delight with my very small and dainty Delaware pullet eggs. PULLET EGGS ARE TOO CUTE!!!!!! I finally was able to kinda mow the grass a couple days ago but not as short as I would have liked...we still have lots of drying out to do. Managed to get my seeds planted yesterday...I know I'm late with them..but better late than never. We have propigation mats and lights to start our seed with. We make saw horse tables in the shop every year for starting seeds and then line them up and light 'em up. Won't take long for them to start...good thing too because DH gets a little impatient when his shop is taken over by vegetable starts and chicks in a brooder.

Hens~ I am very happy those little buggers are doing good! Very excited that the little black one is doing better too. Don't you love how the hobbles work? I was in awe the first time I saw the hobbles help a little chick.

Lisa I love my Brinsea & it does an excellent job if I keep my hands off it..............LOL
I am afraid I just ruined some very special eggs by messing with a good thing. I tend to learn the hard way unfortunately.......................

Karen,

What did you do? Love the plug 'n play bators; set it, and forget it!

Well, since I am a regular reader I took 2 pieces of info from others & made some adustments. I set the eggs in the hatcher for days before putting them on the turner shelves (these were shipped eggs) & I changed my humidity to a straight 50% throughout without changing for lockdown. Not one pip out of 18 beautiful egg. I am sooooooooooooo hoping I made a mistake in my records so I am leaving them in til this week end. I am thinking of getting an Brinsea 20 for these "special eggs" so they can have their very own cycle set just for them. I do staggered hatches & have had mixed results. Almost always do well with my own egg but it's a gamble for me with shipped ones. The box arrived in good shape & the eggs were perfectly wrapped & beautiful....I am so bummed.

Morning Everyone! Its a gray rainy day here. I'm getting a late start cause the sound of heavy rain and winds and HAIL woke me up and kept me up for several hours. I don't know what to think about this weather here this year. Its all over the map....the other day it was sunny, rainy and by the middle of the day had snowed as well. What is going on?!

I just unloaded a lot of chicks out of the incubator...got them banded and under the heat light to let them rest. Its hilarious...I have several breeds I'm hatching, for myself and my parents..but the bin is all blues, blacks, or splashes...and a couple of whites mixed in.

I'll have to get some pics later in the day when they are getting around more, or when I take another lot out of the incubator. I was shocked to find the most luminescent silver chick out of my blue Marans pen. It's a clean legged one, but their mama is too. I can see past that for the gorgeous color tho haha!

Thanks again Kim for the hobbling tips! I have had to use it a couple of times already and know that it saved one of my dorking chicks even when it got hurt at two weeks old. I figured I had nothing to lose and went ahead and hobbled it and let it go for about a week and a half and just wasnt sure it if would work. But it did! You'd never know it ever had a bum leg!

Do you have an opinion about where to buy these vaccines?

The cheapest and best place to buy everything except the LT is Jeffers livestock. I buy the LT from first state. I normally have Pete bring it to a show I am attending. Don

Hi Don,

Are the vaccines for the above injectables? If so do you need to use a new needle for each chick? Can you explain the procedure you go through to do this because i would like to start. Thanks!
