I don't know what the deal is with transporting over state lines......I hope there isn't an issue with it or I have some " 'splaining to do Lucy." I have a friend who is a State Trooper I will ask him if there are any restrictions regarding transport.

I think we need to see how many peeps we can get together and ask their opinions. Find out what their concerns are , are there specifc things people want to discuss more than something else or try to touch base on all topics and then maybe move onto a mock judging to see how each other looks at the bird as a whole and share opinions. I have some tables if needed, they are our work tables so the chicklets could use them and it wouldn't matter if they pooped on them....trust me! All of my work tables have saw cut marks on them from me when I was first learning how to use a circular saw LoL!

Do you know a judge or someone big into the chicken world that might be able to come and give us some basic info like Bev stated they had once? I wouldn't mind discussing basic standards.

Lets get Len's take too, he will have some good ideas. I think he has a great eye for birds!

Sometimes I don't understand you Don..Cuckoos should have white legs but not a yellow beak. Barred Rocks should have yellow legs though some I guess don't and a yellow beak and reddish bay eyes. I don't raise Barred Rocks but I have Partridge Rocks and the body type is a little different and the tail set is slightly different too. I too am not good at typing out an explanation but I don't think the birds in the picture are Marans.

I believe as long as the birds have been tested by a vet or are NPIP certified and you have the paperwork on you proving so, there shouldn't be a problem with transporting over state lines.

Jan~

Per the Washington State Police Transportation Dept. Superintendent there are no laws or special requirements set in place for transporting chickens across state lines from Washington to Oregon. The last thing he said to me, "Just make sure your windows are rolled up if they ride in your back seat.....you don't want them to fly out!"

On that note I hung up the phone ROFLMBO

To be honest I think they are crossed Marans and it could be Barred rock they are crossed with. I believe the combs are a giveaway that they have some Marans blood. This is where the problem comes into play as no one really knows what is in their background. I have trouble sometimes saying what some are when I know what they are supposed to be.

If you really want to be legal the agriculture dept. say anytime you cross the state lines you are supposed to have a Pollurium test. This is a Dept. of Agriculture problem. Too be honest with the small gathering I would not worry about this though.

Ohhh please invite me!

Absolutely! The more the merrier, I think we can learn a lot from each other, it will be great! Everyone is welcome to come! I will ask/get Jan to make a thread about it in the swaps forum, so we are not filling up this thread with the particulars.

Thanks Don!

You are right, here's what they said, Washingtonians must apply through the State of Oregon for importing birds and apply for the appropriate permits and health certifications and permit numbers unless they are NPIP certified by in Washington State. To enter the state of Washington the birds must be accompanied by a health certificate from the State of Oregon and appropriate permits from Oregon, basically it is the state of destinations laws that the out of stater has to abide by. I would have to jump through both state processes just to leave and come back again. I will not transport a bird across state lines again for quite a long time I'm afraid until I can afford to be legal and in my state it is VERY cost prohibitive.

I want to come too!!! If we do a "show" per say, I think that it should be for all of our marans that we want to learn about...and not just ones that we think are show quality. I know that mine all have problems, which would probably keep them from going to a show, but I would still like to learn both what is good and bad about them. We could also do an egg/bird swap! It would be fun! Let me know as the details develop!
