Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Right! Like I mentioned several pages back, I just don't think that every judge or person in the APA has had the opportunity to verse themselves or have been versed in the proposed standard. If a person thinks about it...it's not that small of an entity, so give them a little time. Marans are relatively new in the scope of things. I think I also mentioned as did Bev and Debbi about the importance of having a copy of the proposed standard with you to submit to judges and personnel prior to showing. We can't ask someone to judge something they know nothing to very little about with out giving them something to go by.

My marans haven't laid worth a toot in a couple of months. I am averaging 40% laying rate from them. My EE's are doing great. They lay almost as much as the leghorns. I got some partridge rocks, speckled sussex, and a comet to try out next summer. They won't be laying for another 3 months or so. So, next summer will be their first test of the heat.

I can only do a quick reply... Person in KY with flat roof... I have a flat roof (well mostly) and I am getting a skin put on.. It seals it tight like saran wrap..

Daughter got grand Champion Best in Show eggs for the State Fair in Oregon!!! RAh Rah...

Gotta go house sit an hour away... catch ya later.

Pink.. Start organizing... We will do it.. All are invited.. "everybody goes outside".... (you would have to have seen the movie to get that Denzel Washington reference)

Oh my gosh those are sooo cute!! Three babies! I bet they are keeping you busy. Are you handfeeding them yourself? I don't know what the deal is with the squirrels they are having babies all over the place. For some reason I thought spring was the time for them to have babies...

mathace: I have two speckled sussex that are 7 mos old they did good laying until it got hot. I heard they are good winter layers so maybe they will earn thier keep then lol. They are pretty girls though. One likes to hop on my lap and tell me long long stories lol. I also have 2 light brahma girls that are the same age and still haven't laid any eggs at all yet grrrr.
I want some more EE's I had two and one died early on from a neck injury and the other, I think a fox got her while freeranging. They were so pretty too

OMGOSH!!!! baby squirrels... If you need a recipe for baby food let me know... It is very diet specific... My house rehabbed 4 of them one year... They all were successfully returned to the wild w/o problems...

Nut balls are very important for their growth.. and the scalded milk has to have I believe it is vitamin d in it.. I will have to look it up if you don't have a recipe... They are the very cutest animals aren't they!!???? Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely! The more the merrier, I think we can learn a lot from each other, it will be great! Everyone is welcome to come! I will ask/get Jan to make a thread about it in the swaps forum, so we are not filling up this thread with the particulars.

I'm feeding them with Esbilac, I have a friend who is an ex-wildlife rehabilitator and that's what she recommended. They are about 3 weeks old. I get to start the transition to solid food in a few weeks!
