Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Morning Randy! I've tried all kinds of settings on both of my bators, and still had bad luck. This is the lowest humidity I've tried yet, so time will tell. My Suro fan went out on me on the third hatch! No kidding, with Pink's long awaited eggs!

Luckily, I had my LG styro bator going for an earlier hatch out, so I had to transfer all of Pink's eggs to that one. Then I took the Suro apart, and replaced the fan in it with a fan from an old computer tower. Took a bit of rigging to get it to fit as it was a bit bigger, but I've not had any problems with it since. It holds the temps and humidity really well. Stink bugs came here last year for the first time ever! They dessimated my squash plants. They started by eating the vines, so your watermelons won't be safe either. I'm ready for them this year. If the DE doesn't get rid of them, the Sevin Dust will!

Looks like you nailed the others genders spot on. Oh and the little chick you are questioning about lacing.....I say it's Cuckoo.

Raven ~ Pretty Pink babies there!! They are looking very much like mine. These little pigs are starting to look like butterballs!

Kim,

While I had Miss Billie in the time out the other day, I checked her legs. This is my one Bill daughter, and she has feathering half way down her legs.

Looks like a lady who quit shaving at the knee line!

I have a little Splash cockerel that is the same way...feathering only half way down the leg. He will be 5 weeks old and he is from Bill as well and Bill's dark blue daughter that has feathered shanks.

You think that last chick is a cuckoo? It is from a batch of blue, black, and splash huh

Looks like a Cuckoo pullet......maybe the Splash is carrying the barring as you couldn't see it very well......I sure get Don's angst with the mixing of colors.....in what people sell this is from Cris

Cuckoo (B/B) + Cuckoo (B/B) = all cuckoo
Black male + Cuckoo female = females black (non barring), males cuckoo (B/b) -carrying non-barring/black
Cuckoo (B/B) male + Black female = all cuckoos, all males (B/b) -carrying non-barring/ black
Cuckoo (B/b -carrying non-barring/black) male + Black female = of males: 50% Cuckoo [B/b -all carrying non-barring/black], 50% Black, of females: 50% Cuckoo, 50% Black
Cuckoo (B/b -carrying non-barring/black) male + Cuckoo female = of males: 50% Cuckoo, (B/b -carrying non-barred/black, 50% pure Cuckoo (B/B), of females: 50% Cuckoo, 50% Black.

We tilled our garden this past weekend but it was to cold and very windy to try and plant- I have onions and potato plants to get in- they are about 1 foot tall or so now- hopefully this Sat.

These are some photos of my garden . . .. I KNOW it is a BCM thread - - BUT all my friends are here!
