They are adorable! Congratulations!

You would not have ended up with a Splash chick unless your friend had a blue roo and a blue pullet, blue cross blue or blue cross splash is the only way to get a splash chick. Your friend is running one blue roo and one black roo over Black Copper hens then the little chick that didn't do so well was a very light blue, unless the friend has a very very dark blue pullet or hen (blue can be so dark sometimes that it can appear almost black) that she doesn't know is blue and if crossed with the blue roo then it is possible that a splash was created but the little splash babies will be whiteish silver all over upon hatch and not have a black or in this case probably a very dark blue head and gray body. Sorry about the little chick that didn't do to well.

He looks so pathetic, but hey, I managed to catch him almost standing still yesterday. The little busy bug chaser. Bring on the COPPER!!!!!!! If this boy coppers out like I am thinking that he will...he will be my main man.

Your little guys are SERIOUSLY cute! Much bluer than mine were in the beginning. All 7 of mine appeared quite black initially. But at 4 weeks, I have 2 cockerels and 1 pullet blu-ing up quite nicely out of 7. I could begin to seperate the boys from the girls at about 3 weeks. However, I am not an experienced Maran owner so perhaps things will change.

I also have one with bad legs, a black. She spends a great deal of time on her side but she can get up and moves around VERY slowly. She falls over a lot and her wings get quite a workout. It's hard for her to stand at the feed and water but some how, she has been coping so far even in the big, open brooder. I'm likely going to regret not culling her earlier but she is such a determined young thing, I haven't have the heart to do it.

Have you tried giving her some Poly-Vi-Sol without iron liquid vitamin drops, we had 1 with bad legs and Pink had me give it 3 drops per day for 3-4 days and it's legs improved.

I have been giving her PolyVisol (without iron) and a bit of hard boiled egg daily for weeks now. I have a seriously healthy 4 week old chick with basically no legs. VERY frustrating.

(Last couple of days, I believe the only nutrition she has been getting is from me hand feeding and watering her several times a day. As of today, it appears she can't walk at all. As she grows and gains weight, her legs simply can't cope. I'm going to have to face facts with this chick, I believe. I'm trying to prepare myself. I'm truly at a loss about what more to do for her.)

Anyone remember who posted that picture of a blue chick with an orange head a few months back? Was it Lotsapaints or Flgarden? Someone with birchens I think.
I'm curious how it feathered out.
Pink... I need your "dex"ness for this one. I've tried searching for it, but can't find it.
