We must have set our eggs within 24 hours of each other....I'm on day 10 going into day 11...I was planning on candling tonight...I don't know how much I'm going to be able to see with some of these dark eggs...so I'll have to see. That's fantastic that you have so many good eggs! Those were shipped eggs too weren't they?

Hi Vicki,

Yes, these were shipped eggs from KY. It was soooo nice to be able to finally see something in an egg! I was going to candle them at night, but my batteries were not charged up, so did it the next day. Even in the daylight, I could see through those little white eggs really well. Just hope we don't have any more power outages, or storms for that matter! The one that ripped through here the other night was a really doozy! Good luck on your hatch too!!!

Yeah Mel! Congrats on the new calf!! It's been some years now since I've had some baby calves here. Used to be, you could buy bottle babies at the sale barn for about $20.00 each. Now, those same day old calves, most of which never even got a suck of colostrum, are selling for about $300.00!!!

I asked the auctioneer if they came with a life insurance policy at that price. Evidently, he failed to see my humor....

All this talk about hatching eggs and candling. GRrrr I'm getting that itch again. My youngest baby chicks and ducks were born on Easter. The silkie eggs are awesome to candle so are the little Phx and key west eggs.
For fun, awhile back, I hatched out some blue ameraucana x silver duckwing Phoenix crosses. I have blue birchens on those LOLOLOL. Actually the roosters are just gorgeous. Blue birchen with a peacombs, silver/bluish muff and beards. There is one female but she isn't as pretty but she does have a peacomb so curious to see if she will lay a bluish egg.

In regards to the storm taking the electricity out and not being home... a battery backup is maybe a better option for a short time. You can get ones that can run for 4-6 hours and would come on automatically when the electricity goes out. After that runs out you would need a generator and to be home

But it would buy you some time to get home.

Hey, you're not allowed to talk about your really interesting sounding and beautiful crosses unless you post pictures somewhere on BYC. Are they on the EE thread?
I think it's like 95% blue egg follows peacomb.

I will get some pics of them today for ya.

I am insane with broodies at this point. TWO BCM went broody on me, one of them TWICE. She bailed on her chicks after 3 weeks, and started up again 3 weeks later. I have had 3 of my mongrel girls go broody on me, one of those, a BO cross is on her second round. She did a good job with her chicks, and didn't start up again so soon. The WORST is I have a brown leghorn hen who is kamikaze mom whenever I try to bring water or food into the coop for the one little leghorn cockerel chick I gave her. Enough already. I love the warmer weather, but this is ridiculous. Who needs silkies or cochins??!

Yep! If she has the peacomb she will lay a blue egg or if she is the product of Birchen Marans x AM then she should lay an olive egg. Bet she is PRETTY!
