Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I posted the wrong pictures of what I thought was my Blue Copper Hen from Whitmore Farms. I was looking at the pics and thought it looked like a pea comb and the next day there was a dark olive egg in the box so I knew I had one of my Olive Eggers and my Blue Copper girl mixed up. That's what I get for moving several pens of birds at midnight. Here's the real Blue Copper Hen - also molting but did have a lot more tail feathers till I tried to catch her last night and she screamed bloody murder and pulled out most of her tail feathers trying to get away. They had to have heard her screaming in the next county. Whoever said they are quiet and easy to move at night hasn't tried moving one of my wild childs.

My Birchen (with the gold and silver gene) has a brother - also a Marans mix. These are coming out of my Olive Egger pen - but I think they are beautiful "mutts".

But the Olive Egger pen also produces what I think are some of my finest looking Marans, until I see the comb. I just put this young guy in the Olive Egger Pen - prior to that I would see him running around with his green sheen (his feathers are so black and shiny) and think "There's a fine BCM" then I would see his comb and realize he was an Olive Egger. I'm having a great time breeding my pure BCM roos to my olive egg laying hens - they are producing some nice birds that lay beautiful olive green eggs and the roos end up being so unusual:

And finally, here's a young pure BCM roo - pretty typical of what I'm getting now. I'm thinking his hackle colors are a happy medium between too gold/coppery and too dark mahogany (I get all colors).

Well that concludes my pictorial updates.

Ruth - - - is that a 5 point comb ? ? ? Is so CONGRATULATIONS - - it is one of the few 5 point combs I have seen. I like his coloring too.
Does he normally carry his tail so flat or was it just the pose at the moment ? ?
