Good morning all

Another hot one here today. Seems like the birds are acclimating to it, I'm not seeing as much panting and distressed looks. They have found it is much cooler under the huge Catalpa tree in the front yard, so that's where they all hang out now.

Susie ~ Poor roo. Do you have some younger birds you could put him in with? I had to do that last night with Roy, as I could not catch Clyde to put in the "night pen". Seems they've gotten wise to the schedule of who goes in the pen when. So I put Roy in with four 10 week olds, and watched him for a bit. He was so good with them! He clucked to them when he found goodies, like he does for his girls, let the little ones touch him, ah make that peck at him, until they got too frisky, and then with one stare or a gentle peck, they got the message. It was really funny when it started to get dark and all the chicks went into their tiny coop, and Roy the hulk went in too! I was amazed he fit through the door!

Well, he took over the coop, and now the little ones were freaking out, as they didn't know where to go to bed. I had to step in and remove the hulk from their coop, and put Roy in the night pen inside the main coop. Off to bed the little ones ran. It's getting about time they got assimilated with the rest of the flock, these are pretty good sized chicks for their age. So when I let the rest out to free range today, I will let the little ones in the main run with Roy and Blue Butt. May have to keep an eye on Blue Butt, he is NOT the daddy!

Randy ~ Nope, no ground hog stew yet. They are harder to trap than they are to shoot. In fact, I haven't seen him since that last time, so maybe he decided not to house himself under the well house this year with all the activity out in the yard now. Let's hope..

I use hay. I DETEST shavings. I really don't know why. I just don't like em.

Oh yeah

, I have a new record, early crower here this morning! Still can't beat Lisa's 2 week old, but this one here just turned 4 weeks old yesterday!

It may be something to breed towards. Early crowing means you can tell the roos for sure at an earlier age!

Man! I'm sure glad these Silkies are little birds! You should see these things eat!!

If they hear one tiny crumble hit the paper towel, they all mob the feeder and PIG OUT!!

Then it's a mass nap for all the little gluttens...they are so cute.

AyeUp~ Sometimes they just get pasty butt....the vaseline works great, I also give extra vitamins by beak and the mineral oil on the feed....it usually works itself out. The mineral oil is great.

Just a quick look at how Lil' Bill is coloring up and a close up of his eye color and his comb. His eyes were very very dark until about a month and a half ago.....the comb I can work with.

I totally love this boy!
