Oh Kathy, that would be AWESOME!! Just need one good one though! Thank you!! Vicki, got any pics of those boys??

Let me know what you decide. Just PM me, as I don't always check in on this thread.

Debbi and I will chat and sort out some details and get some photos to look at and such and get an email off to you either way!

I read earlier in this post line that someone had a Marans that laid at 17 Weeks. As We're now at 16 weeks, what should I look for first? I know they can tend to hide their eggs.

We have an arc, inside of a 10x10 kennel cage, and we also allow them the free range in the mornings and afternoons for about an hour. Is it likely that they will wait until free range time and run behind the trees and lay their eggs out of sight? The girls do not seem to be affraid of me, and regularly come up to me and chat at me, looking for seed or corn, or treats.

Should I just do like the person previously, and place a special/dedicated nest box, since it's quite cozy with 10 chickens in an 8' Arc and 10x10 area...

Looking forward to our first pullet eggs!

I think you are getting close to egg time, but the combs on your girls are still a bit small. I think if they have a nice private place to lay eggs in the Ark/kennel they will most likely lay there.

Two of the girls have a larger comb than the others. They also seem to be the highest in the pecking order. The pics I uploaded were from about 2 weeks ago. I'll try to get a few of the Arc/Kennel and girls with the larger combs.

WooHoo! Egg time... Pics when we get the first one.

Can someone tell me how to tell the difference between cuckoo marans and barred rocks? I'm having a hard time finding distinguishing features that seperate them...

Okay all you Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska folks. The big show in Sedalia is OCT 22. I'M GONNA GO!

It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive for me, and about the same for my sis from Columbus, KS. We are going to meet up there. Gosh it would be nice to meet up with some other BYC'ers.

Since we don't know each other's faces we could wear nametags with our BYC names or we could just wear a BYC pin, find each other and then ask, "Who are you?"

Pink-I want to see pictures of your stupid combs.
Maybe while my son is here I can get him to hold a couple of my hens and I can get pics of their stupid combs.

Remember the "Stupid" hairdo's back in the '50's where the guys would comb thier hair forward in a big wave? I got hen like that!
