I just had one start at 17+ weeks! Had them also start at 20 - 25 weeks. I've also read where some folks birds don't lay until they are 9-10 months! I would think the average would be around 24 or so weeks.

Morning!

for you Debbi. That's so awesome! I'm a huge believer in vitamin and dietary therapy when it comes to treating illness but I'm a bit of a hippie thy way I guess.

Set my first eggs in the incubator from my own chickens! Only four. Just a test hatch. I know they've been fertile. They'll be Olive Eggers. Kalamata my EE Roo? BCMXBlack Ameraucana over a wheaten Marans lady. Should be some interesting offspring if anything hatches!

The combs of my Blacks and Blue are pinking up already at 13 weeks. Makes me VERY nervous because I've heard that means they are getting close to laying. (Is that true?) The only other early layer I had (an EE that started laying at 16 weeks) I lost because of egg binding. I will NEVER hope again for early laying. My girls can take ALL the time they want.

Thank you everyone for the compliments on Lil' Bill....he is going to be my main man this year...any eggs that come from me this year will be fathered by Lil' Bill. Hoping that I can incorporate everything that Bill has to offer into every bird that I have with the exception of his clean leggedness. So far Lil' Bill is the best boy I have produced from Bill. Now to get girls with more color.

Thank you Don....I will be using him in hopes of adding more color to the females.....and just between you and me.....this is my favorite color of coppering even if it is a tad too dark.

I've had better luck using Bill than I have using any other rooster and let me tell you I have grown out a few roosters. A few too many.

Steve~ My birds are usually spot on 20 weeks or so.....I've had a couple start very early but they don't normally take their time. Same for the Wellies. You should be seeing some eggies very soon my friend. And yes pictures soon are a must.

DMrippy~ Congrats on your boy from Raven....can't wait to see him.
