OMG - - THAT Is so COOL ! ! !

So like if the new guy is a jerk and the old guy was a sugar daddy. .. .. she could choose which she wants to father the offspring!

That is OMG so COOL!

You won't have to work too hard to persuade a couple of my girls!!!

My 'puter blocked it. I have one girl whose back is bare and another one not even touched. I used to have a hen that would slide right out from under the rooster. Funnier than heck to watch. I also have girls that are particular about their "man". I always laugh when one of the not so popular roos tries to "get a little" and the hen raises a ruckus and the favored male comes a runnin'.

It would be good to know the hen's secret re picking what sperm she wants to honor LOL

My DH has watched our cuckoo Marans hen come out of the coop in the morning, cluck a bit, squat and the Cuckoo Marans boy comes running! When we did a test hatch all 4 of the eggs set from her hatched!

Well, there could be a problem with your suggestion because that more has already been culled!

So Cracker has a choice of a love connection with a much younger brother of the one you liked --- This boy is only 13 weeks old

He still has a lot of growing to do ..... Cracker could get a date with Tsunami, the daddy of the one I just posted pics of...

Or Cracker could just stay with the very hairy but sweet boy she is with right now....
He is much darker than Tsunami or his son(s).

I caught him today trying to show Cracker where the best place would be for her to lay her eggs...
Look carefully, he is in the back corner of the coop making a nest and cluckign for her to try it out!

He left shortly after the photo and she stayed and thought about it...

So PINK These are crackers three choices: Mr. Dark, Tsunami, or Tsunami's young son.
All other BCM roosters have been culled! I am going to need to thin the Delaware cockerel count next. . . .
Thank God those boys haven't been crowing until 20 weeks of age! They are so much easier to let grow out because of that

Hi Everyone, we wanted to join this thread since we raise Marans ! (Copper Black Hen x Copper Blue Splash)

We found it so amusing that people call the Copper Black as Brown Red. (since they are mostly all black with the only copper color on the neck)
I think there is another color name for Copper Blue Splash, but I forget.

Anyways, we got 3 blue colored chicks from our 12 Maran chickies. We're wondering if they will be blue or blue splash ? Anyways, we're keeping those 3 to breed for next year.

We do have all of our Copper Black chickies for sale.

We are so happy with their chocolate colored eggs.

Is it true that if you feed them ice water it will make them have darker colored eggs ? My 12 yr. old son gave out this suggestion to a customer and I'm wondering where he got that from ?

Sometimes the color of her eggs are darker than other times. I wonder if there is any correlation to the amount of fresh grass or certain chicken treats/kitchen scraps (like carrot peelings, or cucumber peelings)?

Anyways, if anyone would like to visit our website to see pics, you're were just invited to !

Good morning all

Big storms passed through here last night, and I just heard the MO State Fair in Sedalia got hit hard. If anyone is heading that way, you may want to call first to see if it's still going on. I woke up with the first crack of thunder and went right back to sleep. Woke again about 6am, took the dogs out, and went back to sleep! I can't remember the last time I did that, or the last time the dogs let me! It stormed some more, and I slept till 9am! I guess I needed the extra sleep?? Now it's sunny, very humid, and supposed to get up into the upper 90s

.

Had another animal in my trap yesterday evening. Turned out to be JR

. He was not a happy camper. Gees, that makes for four chooks I've caught so far, you'd think they'd learn??

No bait in the trap, wonder what the enticement is...curiousity? Silly birds.

I know I have posted pics before of Tsunami's white wing feathers, but I just can not lay my hands on them now...

He is 1 1/2 years old and this is what I am seeing . . .

Left wing - - -- - NO WHITE - Just the reflection on the wing...

IMG_2488600x800.jpg

Right Wing -- - - One wing with partial white on it.

IMG_2487800x600.jpg

He is missing or broke a few wing feathers.... but he only had one wing feather on each side with white on it.
I wish I could find an earlier photo of how white they were.

Welcome to the Marans thread! If you bred a Black Copper to a Splash, the chicks will all be blue. Marans follow the Andalusion (sp?) color code. I never heard that one about the ice water and darker eggs. Their eggs can change, lessen, in color with stressors, like a change in living conditions, weather, molt, etc. I have not noticed any difference with food changes, mine all lay what they lay, and you can get a pretty good idea of their average color after about 2 weeks of laying, or at least that's what I've found here. Any way, welcome aboard, this is a great place to learn and chat about things and Marans!
