All I will say is do your home work as we have had started birds on here lately that came from this person.

What faults did you find snowbird?

Heck, if they will lay me a #9 egg like that, I'll keep them soley as layers! Who wouldn't want eggs that dark in their basket???
Even the Wheaten eggs seem a lot darker than those I have seen before, at least a #7.

I guess because I'm not too interested in breeding Marans, I don't much care whether or not they fit perfectly into the standard.
I honestly don't think I would keep a roo, just the hens for those gorgeous eggs!

Okay... They are the same.... Don is right!! I honestly didn't keep track of it... So much other stuff... MOAC and Marans Chicken Club of USA appear to be the same thing... (who knew)

Too young to tell Kathyinmo. I do like him as a potential... One drawback I see already (for me) is the tail... It appears to be longer than I like it at this stage of developement but he could be growing unevenly so the jury is out on that... I will say that the color looks pretty good.. The general shape of the bird and the leg feathering give him potential.. We will have to watch this one... One thing is for sure... He is worlds better than the batch you hatched last spring... ha ha..

I think that's 89% of all Marans owners.

I first wanted it to be about both - Because I want a proper bird. But now, I don't have such in my flock, so I'm just focusing on the best I can get, but with a breeding to the side that nulls out color/conformation aswell, and only focuses on egg. Together, the two programs will make for a pretty decent group.

geebs,

No they're not, two different clubs (the ones you listed).

MOAC = Marans of America Club

MCCU= Marans Chicken Club USA

Urbanfarmboi.... how is the she/male? Any saddle color??? Still holding my breath... turning blue now...

I understand the temptation for the dark egg... Phunny Kathinmo... The Darkeggside is what you meant right?? lol

I agree that the egg color is what intrigued me with this breed to begin with. That said, there is no reason you can't breed within the confines of the standard AND have the dark eggs. It just may take a little longer. I want the best of both worlds, and sure don't see why it's not possible. JMHO
