Thanks Walt.
It is just the picture.... I was fighting the full sun and couldn't find a place to get out of the glare when taking the pics.
She is a nice rich black everywhere except the copper hackle area.

I posted pics of this girl because . . . .. . . I want to talk about her parents.

Here is the daughter again . .. .

Here are the mothers . .. .

I think that the daughter is a HUGE improvement over the mothers. The tail angle, the width of the backside, the fullness / depth of the chest, and the comb are all better than the mothers, IMHO.
Is anyone else thinking / seeing this too ?

Lisa, I have not commented before on this pullet because I thought she had the lacing coming from the blue. I see now she has the blue Copper mother, so that explains the lacing. I do see that she has light colored ear lobes also. Her main tail feathers should be more open to eliminate the pinched tail. I do believe she has the same comb as her mother though.

I am starting to not like doing the Critiques.

Her comb is better than momma..... I will try to get a close up on momma's. They are REALLY REALLY floppy and uneven serration and just ugly.
I will verify the ear lobes today .. . . . I just KNOW that I was fighting the sun while trying to take the pictures yesterday.

I agree the tail could use a little bit more openness, but it is a huge improvement over what the mothers had.

I'll be back in a minute - - gonna go check it out ! God I hope the neighbors aren't out cause I am going out there in my PJs!

OK, I am back from taking pictures of the chickens in my PJ's. I truly may be one of the craziest people on the street!

Here is the daughter with close ups of the ear and comb....

These are the possible mothers' combs .....

I do think the mothers are much floppier then the daughter's.

For the record, they are most likely from the first hen. The second hen tends to lay a nasty colored egg that I won't set. Every once in a while she lays a normal egg..... so there is a slim chance that the second hen is a mother, but it is more likely the first hen is the mother.

EDITED TO ADD AN EGG SHOT!
100612_eggo.jpg

One of her early eggs, which I read you can't use as an indicator or judge for future color... for that you must wait about 12-20 eggs. (SOURCE FOR THAT: http://www.maransusa.org/eggs.html )

Their names are Elvira, Wednesday, and I can't figure out a name for the third, but today I'm calling her Lil' Kim. They are right around 6 months and only the one with the biggest comb is laying. She's made about 8 eggs for us so far.

Question for you all. I'v noticed on my cockerels, that the older boys have a bluish hue to the ends of the blade on their combs.

I know they can get that way during the winter when the combs get very cold/freeze, but during the summer. I've never seen this before, or at least never noticed it.

Any ideas?

Don, I didn't notice the slight lacing on that hen until you pointed it out. Interesting.

Here are some pics of my BCM rooster. He is 5 1/2 months old.
These are the reasons I will never hatch anything out of him -

1) I know enough to know I don't know enough
smile.png

2) Too much red, I think.

3) He actually had more feathering on his legs but his girlfriends pluck it off when they roost, still, normally, the feathering is very light.

4) Tail, up too high, white/gray puff

5) black in the tail has a little green sheen to it.

The reasons I'll keep him....

1) He is VERY gentle with the hens

2) He is (so far) very friendly

3) I rarely see him eat, he feeds his girl's first

4) He is a wonderful alarm, on constant watch for hawks and lets the girl's know.

5) I love his crow, even after hearing it 100 times a day.

6) He wraps a wing around which ever girl he happens to be roosting with or standing next to.

Darn, I thought the pics were attached, trying again!
