Ruth, I love the look of your pullets/hens. I love how full bodied and round they are, with the rich color in their hackles!
You can expect an order from me next spring, probably towards the end of February, early March. The look spectacular.
ETA: I think its fabulous that they're consistently broody, I've yet to ever have a hen hatch a brood so that's something I look forward to.
After much culling/selling as layers, I only kept 2 girls to breed that were both conformationally correct, and laid a decent egg.
They are both about the same shade, the Black Copper's (Wade Jeane) has more of a matte finish and is rounder:
The Blue Copper's (out of Whitmore Farm's line, I think originally out of Mari Krebs line) lays a redder, more stippled, more oval and more glossy egg.
I like them best, because the "varnish" she coats them with keeps them from getting scratch marks from the pine shavings.
She is a machine as well. She started laying at 19-20 weeks old, in January, and has consistently laid 4-6 a week until she started molting last week.
Even though molting, she gave me 2 eggs this week...poor girl, I want her to take a break so she doesn't get burned out.
Her 15 week old daughters are getting bigger, redder combs already, so it looks like this productivity may be passed on...
Hoping for good color from them
Wow super nice Cpartist... (hey what is with the name)....Super cool eye candy... What gorgeous eggies. This thread just gets better and better... What a lot of nice Chickens and eggies ppl.. Keep it coming!!
Math AceI have heard where women try to incubate in their brasiers.... Strap em on... I will get a head start on the 21 days!!!
. I'm an artist who works with colored pencil (cpartist)...if you click on my website, on the right it has a link to my art blog. My website link no longer works.
I've recently signed a publishing/licensing contract with a major company who has purchased rights to my images for prints, kitchen ware, etc.
The cool thing is...I'm going to do a line of chicken paintings for them. According to them, chickens are "hot"...duh.
.
Anyway, it's given me an excuse for the expenditure to acquire and raise these lovely creatures. I think my artist's eye is helping me with my breeding decisions,
and I know that studying my birds color and conformation has helped me visually as an artist. I love that two of my passions are intersecting
Oh I remember now... You are the one that had me make that fantastic Quiche... fabulous.. Hey folks it is on the website... Check it out.. Delicious. thanks CPARTIST!!
Meet Randy my 27-week old BCM cockerel. I'm new to this breed so I'll take your positive and negative feedbacks. Valentine/Presley line. Love everything I see so far except the chest spots. Thanks.
I would like to point out merits of this bird..Cpartist
Leg color, eye color, good overall sillouette, nice tail, Exceptionally even copper in the saddle, hackle
Good overall color balance, excellent back and tail angle. He looks young so I expect he will gain more substance as he matures. Definetly a good approval rating here. I am amazed at how many good looking birds we are getting.. The red in the chest is of little consequence when you have so much right...Like Blackdotte said, there is supposed to be some.. What 10 percent looks like IDK. I wouldn't hesitate to use this male.
He looks like a COPPER marans... (not a red marans or a yellow marans)..
