ETA: I think its fabulous that they're consistently broody, I've yet to ever have a hen hatch a brood so that's something I look forward to.

Beautiful eggs everyone

Geebs, just for you...

After much culling/selling as layers, I only kept 2 girls to breed that were both conformationally correct, and laid a decent egg.

They are both about the same shade, the Black Copper's (Wade Jeane) has more of a matte finish and is rounder:

The Blue Copper's (out of Whitmore Farm's line, I think originally out of Mari Krebs line) lays a redder, more stippled, more oval and more glossy egg.
I like them best, because the "varnish" she coats them with keeps them from getting scratch marks from the pine shavings.

She is a machine as well. She started laying at 19-20 weeks old, in January, and has consistently laid 4-6 a week until she started molting last week.
Even though molting, she gave me 2 eggs this week...poor girl, I want her to take a break so she doesn't get burned out.

Her 15 week old daughters are getting bigger, redder combs already, so it looks like this productivity may be passed on...

Meet Randy my 27-week old BCM cockerel. I'm new to this breed so I'll take your positive and negative feedbacks. Valentine/Presley line. Love everything I see so far except the chest spots. Thanks.

Nothing wrong with the chest spots, that's the way they should be. Around 10% red is ideal.
Only thing not to my liking is his comb,too many points.

I would like to point out merits of this bird..Cpartist

Leg color, eye color, good overall sillouette, nice tail, Exceptionally even copper in the saddle, hackle
Good overall color balance, excellent back and tail angle. He looks young so I expect he will gain more substance as he matures. Definetly a good approval rating here. I am amazed at how many good looking birds we are getting.. The red in the chest is of little consequence when you have so much right...Like Blackdotte said, there is supposed to be some.. What 10 percent looks like IDK. I wouldn't hesitate to use this male.

He looks like a COPPER marans... (not a red marans or a yellow marans)..

Oh and also....nice hens.
