Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

"Bad Charlotte"

Her sister lives here and does the same darn thing.....I can't put up her name, I would be banned from BYC.

She is a wanderer and tends to go where ever she wants. She is suppose to live in the laying coop with her side kick "Hambone" my Delaware pullet who does not live by any rules that I have made. These 2 "bad" girls make their own rules. Guess it's okay, at least they aren't cockerels.

How's things friend?

I don't believe that there is a desired hue for the eggs....I believe all that matters is that they are atleast a #4 on the shade chart. I love all the colors of Marans eggs, but my favorites are those ruby ones. I have a gal that lays a matte finish cool undertoned egg like you are describing and I think it is pretty. She is a great layer and since her egg color is a little lighter she is in the laying flock, I try to only hatch out those silly rubies.

I would say that you have a good start. He has good beak, leg and eye color. He also has a nice body, how old is he? I love his nice pal blue color, geez that is pretty. What made you decided to start a project like this?

well it just hit me one day that it would be great to see lemon blue marans i loved the color so much and i wanted dark eggs too so i decided to cross my clean legged roo to the lemon hen and this was the product and he is only 6 months old and just started doing his rooster buisness lol

Here is a photo that I took the other day when I was cleaning off my shelf of eggs that I fill up each year with new layers eggs. I can't help it, I love looking at them and DH is always curious to see just how many I can get on that shelf.

Remember a long time ago we were all having a conversation about eggs with spots like warts? Here's one, just thought I would share it. It sure has faded alot after a year.

Don't remember who was asking about the "peacock blue" feather that they see on their blue hen...but here is one on my Blue Copper hen.
