So I was bored & couldn't sleep....I logged on to this site and the picture they have of a Blue Marans Rooster looks like 1/2 of his tailfeathers are white...wassup with that?

Hi, If I could buy some Splash like this female I would not care whose bloodline they were as it doesn't really matter as good ones can come from anywhere. This is really a nice type splash.

Thank you, I am glad to hear that. I was thinking that since she came from a hatchery, she might not be any good.

Caroline, The leg color will be some shade of slate. They still have to work that out yet. I do not believe anyone has even worked with the Splash proposed standard. I believe they were talking about White and Cuckoo being next.

For the Shank feathering some on BYC say it is an easy fix to put the feathers on the Shanks but I have never found that to be true. If you use clean leg fowl with feather leg you will get a percentage of both. I would not recommend breeding clean leg at all unless absolutely necessary. The fowl I was working with had very good leg feathering, but I culled real heavy to get that.

That is good to know. I have so much to learn, this is a great thread! Thank you all so much for sharing your knowledge with us newbies

I agree with Don...this is a very nice bird in type. She is pretty.

Just a quick blurp to what Don said about knowing or not if any of these carnation combs are coming from Davis line birds.......I am here to tell ya that YES some of them are coming from Davis line birds...or should I say birds that are labeled Davis line birds and seems to me it doesn't matter if the sellers are very reputable, they will not accept any responsibility about it and continue to sell birds labeled as such.
When broached with the subject it is simply skirted and denied. At the VERY least they should take them off the market and stop selling them or sell them as what they are....Maransencas.

And that is all I should say about that.
